+ Great lens this is my first L series lens, it is a real cracker, the sharpness and the clarity are outstanding, and focus very quickly, the lens is really well built, and it is the famous cream color, so it stands out from the crowd. All in all this is a professional lens at a semi pro price, if you can live with out the F2.8, I would recommend it.
- It is only f4, you could run into problems in low light, it has no IS system, but you save hundreds of pounds not getting this.

+ Well balanced, especially with tripod mount. Fast focus action and excellent results. I am delighted with the product.
- Couldn't find any bad points at all!

+ Razor sharp optics, yet strangely soft and warm at the same time. Actually improves autofocus. Really pulls the subject out of the background. My favourite lens. Build quality is excellent - everything feels smooth and solid. Makes the bundled lens with my EOS350D feel like a toy. I only gave 9 scores because I know Canon make even better lenses - for the price it's absolutely bang-on!
- No IS, but for the price... what do you expect? No tripod mount. Not entirely sure what the switch on the top does. Perhaps I should read the manual...

+ The 70-200mm f4.0 is very reasonably priced for one of Canon's professional L series lenses, rougly a third of the price of the IS version. The image quality is superb, the images I have taken so far are very sharp even at the widest aperature. The lens is heavier than a comparable non-L series lens but is very well balanced and feels comfortable in your hand. Having the Lens hood and pouch included with this lens was a welcome bonus (all the lenses I have owned so far, both the pouch and lens hood were optional accesories).
- The only bad point I can think of at this time is that the lens doesn't come with it's corresponding tripod collar.

+ Takes clear and crisp images top quality lens.
- Slightly over priced. I think the f/2.8 should be within this price range.

+ lovely smooth action, not too heavy but a quality feel to it.
- Just a shame the IS version is so expensive but even then I used it for night time baseball with no problems

+ Fully auto focus compatible with the Canons' EF 1.4X Extender, and semi-compatible with Canons' EF 2X Extender. Optional tripod collar available.
- Not fully auto focus compatible with Canons' EF 2X Extender. Optional tripod collar expensive. Unusual lens diameter of 67mmm, requiring dedicated filters.

+ Superb optics, beautifully built. Versatile, fairly light, feels solid, easy to use. Fast, virtually silent AF... just a fabulous lens...
- No tripod colllar in the box... :-( then again, with a price tag of approx 20% of the value of the lens, probably just as well...

+
The cheapest L-seriers Canon lens. Very good value for money.
- very high picture quality in the center of the frame and good at the edges of the frame
- well controlled chromatic aberration
- almost absent coma and astigmatism
- small vignetting
- fast, quiet and very efficient autofocus,
- very sturdy build
- perfect quality of build
- one of the few affordable L-grade lens on a market
- - weak performance in bright light, under direct light

+ Fabulous Image Quality, Contrast and Build.
- searches in dim light

- None

+ a bit hevy need a tripod coller
- The Tripod coller could have been part of the lens as it took me weeks to get hold of one or even find one
purchased 25 Nov 2005
+ Beautifully build lens - a joy to use. Results make non-L lenses look poor.
- A little slow at F4 - but te f2.8 or f2.8IS versions are soooooo expensive!
purchased 25 Nov 2005
+ Quick, sharp focussing
- Lack of ring for a tripod
purchased 04 Dec 2005
+ Very sharp images at a reasonable price
- Non that I can think of.
