Small, neat, very well put together, easy to use and smart looking little camera. Very good picture quality for such a small camera. This is my third Ixus *0 series after a 40 and then a 60 - even though I've never been disappointed, Canon still seem to manage to get them better with each incarnation! Slight gripes with the previous version have been improved, with a better A/V connector cover and (I think) an improved battery life.
-
Not much. It would be good to have better battery life, and a spare battery is definitely a good idea for long days, but then it does have a superb 2.5" so you can't have everything!

Doesn't come with carry case. The memory card provided with the camera is too small- making it necessary to buy another.
Image quality is no where near as good as I expected. There is a grainyness on the photos and lack of sharpness, even when on the best possible quality setting. My 9 year old 2.0 megapixel camera I was replacing produces better pictures so very dissapointed!

Very lightweight, and the picture quality seems even better than my last Canon camera which was dropped in the road and ran over !

The only slightly irritating thing is the slider to re view your pics, it seems too close to the video setting and sometimes ends up on that one. The layout on the switch is top middle and bottom position to look at pics-- Its difficult to describe, but it wouldnt put me off buying Canon again.

Software is not as good as previous versions of Ixus - was able to set it up to automatically upload picture then automatically delete images from camera, all by dropping camera into crandle. Have been unable to work out how to do this on this camera. Also doesn't have a cradle, its just a usb connection which is not as slick.

The overall feel and positioning of the controls is very good for a right hander, as you'd expect from an ixus. Separate real viewfinder will be bonus on days when a bright sun is behind you. i.s. seems to work well, but won't make a bad shake go away, care still needs to be taken. Lightweight, easy to carry, there's no excuse not to have this camera with you at all times, ready for that moment.
-
Not much on the bad side, viewing screen could do with some protection from scratches. The carry strap is only for the wrist as with most/all Canons - it would benefit from an adjustable neck strap.

Camera Type

|
Compact
|
|
There are 2 main types of camera: The SLR and the Compact.
SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex. SLR cameras use a prism to reflect the exact image as seen through the lens and so offers a more accurate viewfinder. SLR cameras have detachable lenses offering greater flexibility if you wish to take a variety of different photographs.
Compact cameras have a built in lens and an ‘above lens’ viewfinder which is less accurate but they are often cheaper, more sleekly designed and easier to carry anywhere with you to capture that moment perfectly without having to fiddle with complex settings or a bag full of lenses.

Not to be confused with optical zoom, digital zoom enlarges a portion of the image thus simulating optical zoom. In doing so, some image quality is lost.
|
Face Recognition

|
Yes
|
|
A function for automatically detecting peoples faces and correctly adjusting the focus and exposure to take the best photo
|
Image Stabilisation

|
Yes
|
If a photo is taken at a slow shutter speed, or at a long focal length, the effects of ‘hand shake’ will be amplified. Some cameras come with built-in image stabilisation which is designed to act against this to produce sharper images.
It’s great for low light shots without a tripod, like at a gig.

Memory card slots come in many formats:

Having a timer function is essential if you want to get into the shot yourself. Make sure your camera has this feature if you plan to go on holiday and capture photos of you and your friends or family having fun together.

An under water feature means your camera is safe to dive with, usually between 3 and 5 metres. Most dSLR cameras will require expensive separate housing so consider investing in a waterproof digital compact first.
