Anonymous verified purchaser , “Casual user”

+ Ease of use as a "point and shoot device", quality of image.

- The disc initialisation and finalisation is not as intuitive as I would like. Also, because the finalisation process needs the mains power supply, it's necessary to always take it with you (on holiday for example).

+ When we had eventually got used to the camera it was very good and easy to use and the photography option means you only need to take one item out with you Downloadable manual from website

- Manual difficult to read and understand, the downloaded manual made much more sense.
If anything it is a bit lightweight but others may view this as an advantage

Canon 36x Advanced Zoom
The DC301 features a powerful 36x Advanced Zoom, benefiting from the unique combination of a genuine Canon Video Lens and super-fast DIGIC DV II processing.

Straight-to-DVD recording
Capture footage directly to DVD (-R/-RW/-R DL) for instant playback in almost any home DVD player. Simply finalise a finished DVD in-camera and you’re ready to go.

Instant shooting with Quick Start
Never miss life’s important moments again thanks to Quick Start. One push of the dedicated Quick Start button powers up the DC301 from Standby mode almost instantly – perfect for capturing all those unexpected events.

Intuitive control
An easy-to-use Joystick, positioned on the frame of the LCD screen, gives you complete control over every important shooting and playback option.

Record for longer
Compatibility with DVD-R Dual Layer media allows the DC301 to offer enhanced recording times. Perfect for long days out and extended breaks, it can store up to up to 108 minutes on an 8cm Dual Layer DVD. An optional high capacity battery extends shooting time further.

True Widescreen recording
With Canon’s True Wide High Resolution 16:9 recording system, the DC301 records stunning panoramic movies, ideal for playback on widescreen TVs. Perfectly compose and preview your movie on the 2.7” 16:9 LCD screen. Or use the wide 0.35” EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) to conserve battery power.

DIGIC DV II for photos and videos
Originally developed for the demands of High Definition recording, DIGIC DV II offers faster processing speeds and advanced noise reduction technology. With split path processing, video and photos are processed separately, ensuring that the colours of each look their best.

LCD video light
The LCD screen doubles as a handy video light when turned to face forwards. Providing welcome illumination in dark conditions, it allows recording to continue when ambient light is poor.

Advanced photo capture
Perfect for sharing, still images are captured to SD or SDHC (High Capacity) memory cards. Beautiful photos can be printed directly on printers with a compatible memory card slot.
