I would like to have a "book" manual written for "idiots". The disk manual is OK for computer buffs, but It's a bit of a pain to have to insert a disk and run the computer every time you need to know something or other about the camera.

It is small and light and it is very easy to use. I may find it easy to use because I had an Ixus 40 before and there are a lot of similarities. It is easy to download the photos and the software is good.

I would have liked a manual explaining all the menu settings. It is good to sit with the camera and a booklet and try out all the things it can do.

Takes a while and a lot of reference to the manual to get used to all the features, but I suppose this is to be expected from an 'all-singing-all dancing' camera. Buttons a bit fiddly. Also harder to get the memory card out than our last Canon camera.

Excellent small camera, with very good picture quality. Small enough to fit in my handbag. Even has a chidlren and pet mode for those fast moving objects! Even though most info says ISO is not as high as some cameras, on the camera there is an ISO 3200 mode. Once you have experimented a bit, it is fairly intuitive.
-
It takes a little reading of the manual to understand the basic features, but then easy to use. Not as many modes as some other cameras - but plenty for me!

Really easy to take pictures and video clips within seconds of turning on. Nice big clear screen, good viewing angle and works well in low light. The best bit is strangers find it easy to use so you can get group pictures that are not out of focus with you in it.
-
Slightly fiddly menu system and videos clips are very large in size. I use a 16gb media card and took around twenty-five 3 min video clips and it used up most of the storage space! Canon need to use a more efficient video codec.

I spent a long time researching what camera I wanted to by; I'm not an expert photographer or anything but I love playing around with them and it was important to me to get a good quality one. My previous camera had been the model before this and I loved it, unfortunately I made the mistake of taking it on nights out and university and after many drops it finally broke. However, this is such an upgrade. Far superior, with many more features that I have yet to discover but also don't feel the need to just yet. I love Canon's and will continue to by them. They have excellent battery power and the photo quality is incredible, with crisp images. My favourite feature so far is 'Macro Digital' which astounds me with its precision.
-
The only thing I can possible think of is that the spin dial is a bit hard to maneuver and it can take a little longer than on the old model to change settings. But it is nothing particularly of note and I don't mind it. I read all the reviews on it and am glad I ignored the bad comments as none of them have been true for me.

This product produces fantastic pictures, very saturated, well exposed and pin sharp. The build quality is excellent and it feels really solid in the hand. I like the way it is stainless steel, all the other canon ones of its kind are plastic and they look cheap. Massive 3 inch screen. Easy to use.

Camera Type

|
Compact
|
|
There are 2 main types of camera: The SLR and the Compact.
SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex. SLR cameras use a prism to reflect the exact image as seen through the lens and so offers a more accurate viewfinder. SLR cameras have detachable lenses offering greater flexibility if you wish to take a variety of different photographs.
Compact cameras have a built in lens and an ‘above lens’ viewfinder which is less accurate but they are often cheaper, more sleekly designed and easier to carry anywhere with you to capture that moment perfectly without having to fiddle with complex settings or a bag full of lenses.

Not to be confused with optical zoom, digital zoom enlarges a portion of the image thus simulating optical zoom. In doing so, some image quality is lost.

|
Image Stabilisation

|
Optical Image Stabiliser
|
If a photo is taken at a slow shutter speed, or at a long focal length, the effects of ‘hand shake’ will be amplified. Some cameras come with built-in image stabilisation which is designed to act against this to produce sharper images.
It’s great for low light shots without a tripod, like at a gig.
