+ I bought this printer for my wife to print off the many pics that we have recently taken of our new baby. The MP540 has a fantastic range of features and is very simple to use. I bought this printer on the basis that my wife could input her SD card from her digital camera and use the colour display to print off many different sizes and copies as she likes. The software was easy to install onto her laptop (that runs Vista) and is very user friendly once linked up.
- The only bad point was that the printer does not have Bluetooth connectivity built in but isn't major problem if like me you have a dongle.

The printer was purchased for domestic use, and as such has not been used to any significant length of time
However, the printing is fast and quality of a professional standard.
The pictures so far produced using the camara's memory card are excellent, and arguably better qaulity than one receives from a professional shop
- Nothing found of a negative status to date

+ Compact unit providing scanner/printer and copier. Have not tried all the features but once I understood the proces, the scanning was particularly effective as I had a number of documents to assemble into one file.
- Need to study the manual to understand what all the options are on the Key-pad, which is very clear to read.

I love it after 4 years of a HP Desk Jet.
Having discussed the CanonMP540 with friends, it is clear this is a printer to be desired Yes, an excelent product
Photos' are excelent, much to my delight.
- .Similar to other printers, the inks are too expensive. but I can understand the thinking on this point. It is a rather greedy policy.

The overall size and appearance fit into any set-up. In general terms the printer loads itself with just a little help from you. I am impressed with its ability and speed, it is certainly far better than my old Epson 3200.I only use the printer in a home office setting but it suits my needs very well.
I have acquired compatible inks at reasonable cost, but have still to try them out from - www.eezytrade.co.uk
I did think five seperate inks was unusual but that is the case.
- I have not found any!

+ Looks great, easy to set up and full of useful features. The software installs quickly and doesn't seem to have any negative effect on my PC's performance (unlike certain other manufacturer's). The quality of the scans are excellent. Definately worth the money!
- A little slow to start up but not much else wrong to be honest.

Photo printing
The PIXMA MP540 offers superior photolab-quality prints with 9600×2400dpi* print resolution and 1pl ink droplets for smooth tonal gradations and virtually grain-free prints. The ChromaLife100+ system** combines Canon’s FINE print head, new dye-based Single Inks and certain Canon genuine photo paper to deliver long-lasting, beautiful photos.
Single Inks
Individually replaceable tanks minimise ink wastage and save money. New formulation dye-based inks of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black produce superior photo prints, while a dedicated pigment Black delivers crisp, sharp text documents.
Ease of use
The Easy-Scroll Wheel and TFT display facilitates simple navigation through the menus and offers a visual display of your images. Quick Start allows operation within seconds, and the self-opening paper tray means that even if you forget to open the paper tray, your printer won’t.
Convenience
The PIXMA MP540’s two paper trays increase media flexibility, allowing the user to pre-load both photo and plain paper. PictBridge compatibility and memory card slots also benefit digital camera users, enabling them to print directly from their camera without needing a PC.
Editing software
Manage your creative projects and create photo albums and calendars with the bundled Easy-PhotoPrint EX software. The user-friendly software also includes Auto Photo Fix for image correction options and red-eye reduction.
Scanning
Enjoy high-quality scans with the 2400×4800dpi resolution scanner. Advanced MP Navigator EX software manages your scanned images and includes PDF editing features and a range of image correction options. Auto Scan Mode automatically recognises the document or photo you’re scanning and chooses the appropriate settings accordingly. There is also the option to scan directly to memory card or USB stick for easy transfer and storage of images.
