+ Takes pictures very quickly and easily, picture quality and zoom outstanding.

- When looking through picture library the round scroll bar is easy is accidentally move, meaning you suddenly end up looking at a picture you weren't expecting. Flash is a bit too strong at first but this is easily fixed with a bit of fiddling with the settings.

+ Build quality is excellent, the LCD screen is large and clear plus it is still clearly visible even in the sunlight. The different scene settings give plenty of flexibility.

- A little heavier than I would have liked but that is most likely due to the robust build quality. It is too easy to catch the selection ring which is positioned around the main button arrangement.

+ I bought this cam to replace my Sony P72 in preparation for a visit to Florida. The camera is easy to use when set on automatic and it copes well with most situations. Image when fully zoomed was much better than expected. Battery life is excellent and the flash seems upto most tasks. The movie feature is good, allowing editing which was not available on my last cam, would have prefered mpg instead of mov format. The cam is ready for action quickly, much faster than my old Sony. It's also fairly robust (it has been dropped a few times). The face detection mode waits for you to join the photo, by counting the faces then waiting for one more, it actually works !

- The flash cannot be forced on when in auto (it can be force off), this sometimes leaves some unwanted shadows. Using one of the program modes gets around this. Nightshots can be trouble for the canon, mainly trying for focus.

+ This is a beautifully small and elegant little camera with a superfast start-up time and is a pleasure to use.
Build quality of this camera is excellent, and it feels good in the hand - though maybe not in very large hands.
Controls are neat and intuitive and easy to navigate after a few minutes of use.
It has a very nice quality Canon lens.
The picture quality, even though its a 10 megapixel, is up to Canon`s usual high standard, ie, excellent !
It has an absolutively beautiful 3in LCD screen that is a pleasure to look at, with a crisp and colourful image.
Video quality, though not HD, is very good indeed and does not disappoint in any way.
The battery life on this little camera is also really good (considering the size of the LCD) and isnt a problem. In conclusion, this is a great little Japanese-made point-and-shoot camera that is beautiful to look at, small enough to fit in a shirt pocket, and which also takes fine pictures.

- I honestly and truthfully cannot, after just a few weeks of use, find any bad points with this camera, except possibly, the lack of manual control of aperture/shutter, which would have made this little gem perfect !

+ The Camera is very intuitive to use if you don't want to read the manual.. BUT reading the manual has enhanced my experience.. Still a lot more to read, but already getting fantastic results. Would recommend the camera to anyone and I am soooo pleased I bought it.

- Some of the terminology on the camera is a bit technical and alright if you know what it means in the first place.

+ It is a good point and shoot camera that I got as a gift for my sister as she takes lots of photos of her little one and she has been extremely happy with it. It also allows her to take good quality, short video clips.

- The dial location (when choosing picture type) can easily move thus resulting in less than perfect picture quality.

+ Fairly robust and a good size. Great pictures. Useful manual settings.

- Ergonomically uncomfortable. Doesn't balance well in the hand. Easy to nudge the settings whist trying to hold with one hand. If you give up and decide to use 2 hands it's then easy to obscure the flash.(Something they've added an extra little warning leaflet about in the box.

Probably, the best camera in the P&S ultra-compact range.

- No manual control (no Tv or Av modes), flash is often to strong (not possible to vary its strength even in P-mode) leading sometimes to overexposed shots.

Quality 10.0 Megapixel imaging
Sleek and sophisticated in gold or silver, the Digital IXUS 870 IS boasts an exceptional build quality. The 10.0 Megapixel sensor captures the finest of detail, for superb large-scale prints and creative cropping possibilities.

Capture more
The 4x wide-angle (28mm) optical zoom lens lets you capture more in your frame – ideal for sweeping landscapes or group photos. Canon’s renowned optical Image Stabilizer technology counteracts camera shake for outstanding image quality.

DIGIC 4
Incorporating the latest in image processing technology, DIGIC 4 delivers extraordinary noise reduction. The result is richly detailed, clean images, even when shooting at high ISO speeds. DIGIC 4 also drives exceptional processing speeds and responsive operation.

Face Detection Technology
Great people shots are assured with the latest Face Detection AF/AE/FE/WB, even for faces at angles and far away. Face Select & Track optimises settings for a chosen person, while FaceSelf-Timer waits for you to enter the frame for great group shots. Auto Red-Eye Correction eliminates red eyes during shooting and playback.

No blur
The Digital IXUS 870 IS combats potential blur with High ISO Auto and Motion Detection Technology, which ascertains movement of both camera and subject to set the optimum ISO, whatever the shooting situation. Servo AF tracks moving subjects to ensure they remain in focus.

Optimum contrast
i-Contrast analyses a scene during shooting or playback, then automatically boosts brightness. The result is improved contrast with retained detail in tricky lighting conditions.

3.0” PureColor LCD II
The generous 3.0" PureColor LCD II offers exceptional contrast and colour rendition, plus a wide viewing angle for easier framing, playback and menu navigation – even at angles and in bright sunlight.

Shooting Modes
19 shooting modes – including a new Sunset mode, for stunning photos at sundown – deliver great results in tricky lighting conditions.

Easy access
The easy-to-use Multi Control Dial provides fast, convenient and accurate access to menu items, functions and images during playback.

Movies
Shoot high-quality 30fps VGA movies with sound. Advanced compression technologies reduce file size, to free up valuable extra memory.
