+ Really solid build quality makes you assume this printer is made to last and the design means that it looks pretty cool as well compared to some of the more ugly multifunction printers on the market . The print quality is excellent and the ink usage is very reasonable, especially in comparison to my old Epson printer which this product replaced.
- Despite the cool design it has quite a large footprint, but as long as desk space isn't an issue this shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately you can't use it as a network printer as its only computer connection is USB which is a shame and surprising considering the price bracket that it lies in and my only other grumble would be that its not Wi-Fi enable. Despite these points though this is an excellent product and I would highly recommend it to anybody.

+ looks, print quality, versatility, efficient use of inks. you get full size ink cartridges with the printer (rather than reduced capacity ones to make you buy inks sooner). No blockages as yet. (6 mnths light use, only just changing out cartridges from the original ones).
- speed when in high quality mode. cost of branded inks.

+ This printer has outstanding features and a range of easy to use software options. Set up is simple. Quality of print is good for the price. It has everyting from one touch printing to more complex editing and resizing and a range of interface options. I have been very impressed and delighted with the photo print quality.
- The printer is a little on the bulky side, careful consideration should be made on where to place it as you will need clearance above the printer to be able to operate it. USB / computer connection is limited to the rear, I advise a long cable to be used when connecting to your computer so not to limit your options on where to place it.

+ You can print your own photos from your SD card saving a lot of money having them developed at photo lab. After you scan a image onto the computer you can alter any image by changing the settings, making it brighter or duller. Or from colour to black and white and scan up to ten small items at once using in advanced scan there are three to choose from. you can only do this if you use the scanner driver. It also has a quiet print function which is good especially if you have to print things late at night. This setting is much quieter than then normal setting. And other special features as well.
- It does not have a timer which you can set to switch printer off after 5, 10, 15 minutes if the printer is not in use. I miss this function as it saves money on electric. I had this function on my last canon printer. And I miss it alot.

+ Excellent for general purpose home use. Easy to operate. Reasonable ink usage at reasonable prices. Physically, considering it takes the place of a scanner and a photocopier as well, it is a compact piece of equipment. I particularly like the fact that all the inner workings are hidden away. Cleaning away dust is a real pain in the posterior. Considering what you get, the Canon MP610 is great value for money, and even more important - very reliable.
- As you would expect with something of this size and being a multi purpose piece of equipment, some aspects may not work so well as they do singly. In this instance I suspect it would be the direct print copy option. The results are reasonable but not always as good as one might like. For me this is balanced by having a scanner which actually works. I have never yet had a scanner that did not need to have its software downloaded again so often I spent more time doing that than using the scanner.

+ Excellent printing and very good value for money. Comes with full ink cartridges. Cartridges last a reasonable length of time. Photo print quality is 19600 dots per square inch. Thats 140 horizontally and 140 vertically - pretty amazing for a printer of this price. The software is excellent. Includes the ability for booklet printing. Photo printing can be border free (i.e., using full area of the paper with no white margins). This is much nicer than with margins.
- Not really a bad point, but ... The printer comes with print head wrapped separately, and you have to follow instructions in order to install it into the printer. Then you have to use the software to align the print head settings accurately. Contrast this with other machines that come ready to use. These other machines are not as good. I guess that the Canon's superb preciaion of 19600 is the reason it has to be set up after being transported. It's worth it for the suberb quality.

+ Print quality for documents and photos is excellent. The MP610 is neat and compact.
- Scan quality not so good but aceptable for a product at this price point. Controls not particularly intuitive. Warm-up time could be better.

+ Amazing print speed and it is fairly quiet. Excellent paper handling as well with duplex built in. It also has very good additional features such as the ability to print direct from a compatible digital camera or from the camera's memory card. Seperate ink tanks also cut down on the cost of purchasing ink tanks. The print driver software is also full featured with all the options you could want.
- none so far

+ Very easy to set up the instruction are in plain english with pictures and the print quality is first class. I can't really comment on compatibility as my camera equipment is also canon.
- It is bulky but then I wanted the extras it has, for example a scanner - it does have a sleek design

+ Very easy to set up, no problems communicating with my existing systemv and software. Excellent print quality, letters look professional and photos look terrific. Scanner is very good indeed. Cartridges seem to be lasting well, too. I also like the fact that it can be closed up completely when not in use, so keeping out dist etc. (See comment under "bad points" for the etc!)
- None - apart from the fact that my cat thinks I bought it especially for him to sit on! :)

- Should be supplied with a USB cable. Set-up didn't go smoothly but I got there in the end. Some people would undoubtedly struggle with this aspect.

+ Speed of printing and quality of print is the best from all previous printers
- Loading software onto computer gave no end of trouble. Still have the following niggly problem although they do not affect the operation of the printer. a) When switching on the printer a wizard window appears and has to be cancelled and b) A bubble appears from the notification area of the monitor to inform me that a fault in the loading of the new hardware has occurred and the equipment may not work properly.

Jules, Kidderminster, “Cartoonist, Business Stationery.”
+ So much quicker and quieter than my old Smartbase MP390 (I'd estimate about 3 to 4 times faster). The print quality is stunning for an inkjet particularly when using matte photo paper. The LCD screen allows easy navigation through its wide range of features. The cassette tray is very handy along with the CD tray which allows you to print directly onto a disc.
- er.... erm.... none I can think of at the moment. Depends how quickly it uses the cartridges, but as I buy bulk compatible cartridges this shouldn't be too much of a concern for me at least.

+ Setting up this printer on my Apple Mac was as simple as plug it in, install a small bit of software and I was printing, scanning and copying within 5 minutes. I find the printer functions are pretty much intuitive to use and thats saying something as I'm a techno dunce. Print quality and speed are both excellent, cant fault them at all. Build quality is better than other printers I have looked at including HP and Epsom. Although not the smallest printer, this doesn't bother me and it looks good. Overall a very good product worth considering.
- Not found any yet. Although as with all printers I wish they would include a USB cable as standard.

+ A really fine printer - the quality in draft mode is really acceptable for most printing and by using it in this mode my ink bill is lower. The scan and copy quality is fine as well.
- Having just a USB slot in a bit limiting. I wish it had an ethernet slot or the old printer port for connecting to a file server or print server. These days even home office networks need this kind of connectivity.

Chris, Harrogate, “Semi-professional user”
+ Does everything I want it to do, brilliantly: good photos, duplex printing, clever scanning, flexible paper input. It is quality build and relatively cheap to run compared to other brands.
- None really. It does not auto switch on/off like the Pixma 5000 it replaced, but I suppose that is because it can be used as a freestanding copier.
18 Oct 2008
Alan, Berwick Upon Tweed, “Office Administrator”
+ Once warmed up. the prints are very fast, quality for text documents is good even at draft level, ink seems to last well and also can be changed individually. I read other reviews that said the printer was quite large, make no mistake, this thing is huge!! I would recommend this over the newer model as the inks are better in this version and the new features they have added aren't worth paying extra for.
- Doesn't seem to sync straight up with HP computers, when you try to scan something it launches the built in HP Muvee video editing software so you can't actually scan anything - I've seen a few other people on the net complain of the same issue. Colours photos don't print out the same as on my screen but I don't really have the knowledge to go about calibrating the colour correction between screen and printer.
