+ As with most Canon lenses this lens is very easy to use. The lens produces very good quality images with absolutely minimal vignetting, even at 10mm. It is a great lens for indoor shots and just as good for panoramic photos too.

- I'm not sure this is really a bad point, but the lens does require an external flash if you plan to do flash photography, as the lens is large enough to cast a shadow on photos when using the built in flash (on the Canon 400D at least).

+ Very well-corrected image, with minimal distortion, particularly useful if buildings are involved! The 10mm end allows some wonderful WIDE shots, while the 22mm overlaps nicely with my 'standard' zoom lens.

- It feels as though the degree of correction to maintain a rectilinear image creates some magnification changes across the image, though I have no technical measurements of this, and the effect is mild. A shame to have to buy ANOTHER size of polarizing filter.

+ Ultra wide - you get the pictures that the average photographer with the average lens cannot. Great for indoors.
Does not extend when zooming, keeps to a compact size

- For some reason I find this quite difficult to slot onto the camera, more than my other lenses. Just takes some getting used to.
Takes in so much area that you are likely to need a lens hood when outdoors.
I was surprised to find that it is not so useful for wide landscapes, unless you are faced with a massive object right in front of you. When looking across hilltops from a distance I find that the attractive part of the picture becomes a small strip across the middle of the image, sandwiched by huge amounts of foreground and sky. Much better when dealing with closer subjects like buildings.

+ the focal range is perfect for indoor compositions, and also overlaps perfectly with my next lens. good depth of field for lanscape shots too.

- shots needing flash cannot be taken using built-in flash, as the lens width obscures some of the image from the effect of the flash.

+ Fantastic for landscape shots and wide angle in-doors.

- Expensive! Cost more that my EOS 350D and probably ths body doesn't do the shots justice!

+ Build and image quality are both excellent. As with any quality lens you still need to compose your shots to get the best out of it, but the creative expansion that this lens offers to any equipment set is very exciting. Depth of field is awesome, and pictures are sharp at both ends of focal range with little distortion evident.

- For the price I am disappointed that Canon don't include a lens hood, but having said that I have used the lens without a hood and not found flare a problem, so while it seems like you have been cheated a little it doesn't affect image quality.
