Brother HL-2035 Reviews: Brother Home Black & White Laser Printer

+ Quick, good print quality, good value for money, and toners not so expensive...

- Manual feeding is Absolute Nightmare - sheet of paper never goes straight. NO WAY!.Even when printing one copy of double sided print need to use auto feeder. Nightmare!!!
And sometimes printer takes 2 sheets from auto feeder.

+ This is a fantastic difference to an inkjet printer as long as you only need black and white printing.
I don't print large volumes and this printer has proved perfect - it is still on the cartridge that came with the printer. This is a big improvement compared to my previous inkject which seemed to need constant supplies of new ink. Amazing value for money

+ For its price, this is a grand little laser printer - fast, decent quality of print and the toner replacements don't cost the earth. Does what it says on the tin. ;)

- I'd quite like wireless. Trying to find room for everything to hook into the computer with wires is a pain.

+ I think that this printer is one of the best value printers you can buy at the moment. The print quality and speed is very good, especially for the price.

- The only criticism's I have are minor.
1) If I use 130 gsm paper I have to use the manual feed at the front of the printer, and I sometimes find the aligners move a bit too easily and the print comes out not quite straight on the page.
2) I have found that the power cable can come a bit loose at the back of the printer, but this may just be unique to my individual printer.

- Its one of these products that is sold without an actual manual. its on a disc. which is very fustrating when trying to familiarise or trouble shoot

+ Was easy to set up. Prints onto thick paper.
This was a replacement for a very reliable old Brother printer (HL 10h) which does not work with Vista but was going strong on XP and cost approx £2,000 when new. So the HL2035 at around £60 from Tesco was a bargain.

- Bit noisy when starting up. Thick paper guide is a bit flimsy - could do with having a slot-in extension.

+ The whole printer and set up is easy, fast and simple to use.

- I use A5 in my printer and not many printers can handle this size very well but this one does quite well. A4 prints quicker but I am not complaining as I had this printer at a very good price and wouldn't change it for any other.

+ Compact good quality print

- The motor when printing is veruy noisy. I had a Brother HL 4440 before and this was reasonably quiet. Also there is no paper low indicatior like the previous model

+ easy to set up. from turn on to use is quick. Use full print features. good price.

- pity the cost of a new printer appears to be less than getting a new toner cartridge.

- Does not allow default printer selection in Chooser, yet. Cannot be networked. Set-up and operating instructions (in both the leaflet & the sequence of on-screen prompts from the driver disc) could have been written more precisely -- but all manufacturers seem to fail in this area

- Paper feed keeps jaming when printing anything other than standard A4 paper. The manual feed doesn't take paper in square, so you get prints that arent square to the page border.

+ Good printing for £49.99. Plus, spare cartridge should be easy to obtain but will probably cost as much as the printer.

- Loud and noisy when compared to my samsung ML1510 which makes about a quarter as much noise.

+ Clean dry sheets of paper delivered in a reasonable time No smudging as often happens when inkjet prints are moved too quickly.

- Toner and drum are expensive. Page life of the toner is very low - only 1500.

+ Reliable. Reasonably cheap to run - separate drum and toner. Good size paper tray. Relatively small footprint.

+ actually everything is ok fine, all component working perfectly and quality also very good.

- i concern only bad point, we cant get two side print. to get the two side print we have wast lot of time. if we get that facility to this machine that will be perfect one for individual users.

- Tends to load the paper crooked when using the hand feed if you don't get it absolutely right.

+ As a home user this printer does what I want it to @ a speed that does not keep me waiting. I only print out letters & tables so I can't comment on the quality of photos, but I can see no reason why it should not print out good B/W prints.

- Like ALL printers, for the cost of a new cartridge or toner I can almost buy a new printer each time the ink runs out.

+ as I am a student in College doing my htesis at this time I need to print many articles. this printer has printed many more pages than my inkjet can from a drum of ink. The font has no bleed and type looks crisp and clear. The speed is also good, faster than my inkjet.

- you must wait for the printer to heat up properly before you hit print or else it prints gibberish or in another language. No other bad points in my opinion.

+ Ease of use , accessibility of cartridge and printer, warning lights etc, quiet operation

- I have not found any yet although l found information on duplex printing confusing it that the information was misleading in that it seemed to be possible by the printer(i.e. no manual involvement) which was not. But the ease of use to print both sides was straightforward[reverse print odd pages// turn paper over -reverse print even and the copies come out in and collated]

+ for the price this is an excelent printer good value for money for office printing I am waiting to see how long the toner will last.

- cannot really quibble, but toner costs approx 2.5p per page printed, which is probably double what it might cost on an inkjet printer if you use cheap ink

- case is very flimsy - catches on the front look like they will break easily.
paper tray comes right out and is flimsy.

- The machine is quite loud due to the cooling fan and this stays on for about 15mins after printing has finished (it does slow down though)

- Replacement toner and drum should be made more readily available and more secondary manufacturere refills encouraged: you should be making a virtue out of your good product and make your profits from it whillst making the replacement parts a positive by making them easily sourced for the purchaser and user. This would set you apart from other manufacturers. Why don't you more proactively and responsibly support Linux formats? The machine could be a bit prettier!

- Toner and drum are more expensive than model it replaces, both are very similar, and could and should have been made to be compatible. Typical stingy manufacturer trait which just annoys consumer.
