+ Easy to set up, easy to use, it's quiet and quick. I think it is as small as is can be, considering it does so much. The buttons are a good size and easy to read. The screen is clear. loading the paper isn't a major task and it fits nicely on the desk and looks good. It's easy on the ink and the cartridges don't cost the earth. It does exactly what it says on the box!

- It's hard to find any!

+ Having seperate ink cartridges are more economical!!
Easy to refil with paper

- I find the copying of documents etc not as easy as the lexmark........when you scan it in you cannot see instantly what it will look like & have opportunity to crop the part you want printing straight away!!! Also I am using a seperate photo package to crop & fix photos where as the lexmark did it all in one go (very easy)

+ I purchased a new HP Multi Funtion Printer and had all sorts of problems with installation and software (some of the software is still on my computer). I then returned the HP and installed the Brother with no problems. It has worked beutifully ever since

- Cannot scan direct to my (non Microsoft)E-Mail programme.

+ Cartridge replacement is easy but remoteness from ink head means unplugging is not recommended.

- Loading paper is a pain. You recommend that one should NOT unplug power (Could damage ink head ?)
Compared to HP the software isn't good - Scansoft Paperport 11. Slow compared to HP
Given the opportunity to select again, I'd take a look at a different machine.
Only through a problem with my PC did I have to discard my HP and an overall software problem meant I had to select another make.

+ Easy to use, to date trouble free, compact and fits easily on desktop, easy to change inkk cartridges and generally simple and easy to use all round

- Envelope printing facilities are very poor, and would influence me not to buy this again, unless there was an external feed seperate from the paper tray. The cost of operating is very high, the ink cartridges are unjustifyably expensive. Again I would look elsewhere when replacing the unit in the future

+ Straightforward to use for printing (except for one major point - see below) and for scanning.
I purchased a Brother printer specifically because it takes separate refills for each ink colour.

- The software package doesn't cope automatically with double-sided printing - a major deficiency. My previous printer (HP Deskjet D2360) handled this nicely - printing (I think) the odd sides first then prompting me to re-insert the paper for the even sides. Now I have to do this "by hand", asking the application for a second print run, and the interface is different for Adobe Reader / Word / Powerpoint / IE etc. - a real pain.
