Anonymous verified purchaser , “Long-term Mac user.”

Score 8.0/10

+ Without a doubt the good points are design, weight/portability and, usability. Considering the technical specs, the MacBook Air performs surprisingly well and fares well against my 2.16GHz MacBook Pro. Everyday tasks even seem quicker on the Air. Overall, the user-experience is fantastic - I can't stop using it!

- Small hard drive. However, portable USB storage is so cheap now it's a simple task to store all data externally, leaving the Air free of congestion to keep it running as it should.
Battery life could be better. Great for everyday tasks but run a Quicktime stream or movie full-screen and you'll soon see the battery go down.

Expert reviews for Apple MacBook Air MA0003B/A

TechRadar expert review

The Apple MacBook Air (¬£1264 inc. VAT) is highly recognisable, thanks to its unique design and widespread advertising. In many ways it is the most stylish laptop in this group, but its limited connectivity and upgradability may deter buyers. While there are more portable laptops in this group, the 1.4kg aluminium chassis is slim, light and strong. The 153-minute battery life is far exceeded by many rivals, however. The battery is also sealed and can only be replaced by an Apple technician, so you can't carry a spare.Usability is excellent. The keyboard is firm and responsive and typing…

PC Advisor expert review - by IDG staff

In many ways the story of the MacBook Air is the story of a series of compromises, all made in order to fit an entire Mac in a 1.3kg package that's 4mm thick at its thinnest point.

Laptop Buyers' Guide

Manufacturer's Description

The new MacBook Air. Better graphics. More storage. Yet still the world’s thinnest notebook.
The new MacBook Air is still ultrathin, ultraportable, and ultra unlike anything else. But somehow there’s room to add so much more. A bigger hard drive. A 4x graphics performance boost. And more power for everyday tasks. Mobile computing has yet another new standard.

  • What makes the Air so thin?

MacBook Air is nearly as thin as your index finger. Yet it has a 13.3-inch LED-backlit display, a full-size keyboard, and a large Multi-Touch trackpad. It’s incomparably portable — without the ultraportable screen and keyboard compromises.

Advanced NVIDIA integrated graphics.
The NVIDIA GeForce 9400M brings amazing, high-speed graphics to MacBook Air. With up to a 4x graphics performance boost, graphics-intensive applications now run faster. Movie and video playback is now richer. Even Cover Flow flips more smoothly. It’s a quantum leap for MacBook Air graphics.

More room. So you can take it all with you.
The MacBook Air hard drive is now larger at 120GB. So now there’s plenty of storage space for your photos, movies, documents — basically everything you want and need to take with you. Or upgrade to a 128GB solid-state drive, which has no moving parts, for enhanced durability.

Built for the wireless world.
MacBook Air takes full advantage of the wireless world. A world in which 802.11n Wi-Fi is so fast and so available, you can truly live untethered — buying and renting movies online, printing wirelessly, and sharing and storing files on the web.
