Alphason Sona HES42/3-B Reviews: Black Wood TV Stand for for 42" TVs TVs

+ Looks a little different, appearing modern yet stylish. The shelf space is ideal for my particular equipment, a Virgin V+ box plus a Bose Lifestyle system. The finish and colour also perfectly matches my Panasonic Viera plasma, and the height of the unit is ideal for my particular circumstances.

- There is no cable management at all ( if the base panel was hollow you could feed all the cables inside), and the veneer on the wood panels look as if they might start coming away after a few months of cleaning and dusting.

+ Looks very stylish and very different. The unit has had lots of good comments from visitors.

+ Superb styling complements current flat screen TVs and also provides sufficient shelf space for the usual set-top box and DVD recorder/PVR.
I chose it primarily for its design and compact height which placed the centre of my 40" LCD screen at exactly eye level. It was quite easy to assemble and is reassuringly solid construction.

- With a central glass shelf it was difficult to hide all of the cables and I could really have used another two of the self adhesive plastic cable guides which were supplied. Two were needed for the TV cabling - but with additional items on the shelf, two extra cable guides would have made a big difference.
No other bad points; - it really is a lovely item of contemporary furniture which performs its function in a discrete manner.

+ Elegant and modern looking, stylish and expensive looking but at an affordable price. Lovely lines and contours, attractive on the eye - love it!!!

- Other than cables but you can never hide all cables really unless you trunk them. The thick columns of the unit do go some way in hiding them though. This 'problem' is totally outweighed by the reasons above anyway.

- Need to be careful building the unit and one of the threaded post wouldn't align properly, but sorted eventually

+ I'm really pleased with the product. It was very easy to put togeatherand looks really good with my tv. The unusual design always attracts comments.

+ Black panels match flat screen TV - glass panel adds lightness and interesting feature. Gliders aid moving unit for easy hoovering.

- No cable management. It would be good if the central column (made up of 2 pieces) could have a cable tidy column as part of the structure. As the unit is see-through all the wiring hanging down the back is unsightly - and is totally at eye-level when sitting watching the TV. It is obviously possible to add a separate cable tidy but there is no way to attach it to the central column so it can be hidden.

+ cheap! looks modern and very nice, looks much more expensive than it was, very pleased.

- there are cable fasteners included with the stand, but a bit difficult to make the cables look neat if you can see the stand from the side, if not its perfect. (we did manage to make it look good by hiding slack from the cables under the stand, but was a bit fiddly!)

+ Superb modern looks which in my opinion, better match the black surrounds of my screen than a chrome/glass stand. Appears to be sufficiently substantial to give many years of use.

- Being black it shows every speck of dust. It is important to dust in the direction of the grain to prevent streaks. Although there is a cable management system, some cables are still on view because of the clear glass shelves. Although it would add to the dust problem I think these shelves would be better in black.

+ Lovely, stylish to look at when its fully assembled and in use.

- Not wide enough between shelves. Only good for things like dvd players but not for speakers as they are too wide for the space. Perhaps the height of the whole product could be extended a bit as well as space between the shelves.

+ I like everything about this stand. It looks expensive and is a very good design. As the television is black predominately the whole image looks great.

- You must remember to dust following the "grain".
