+ Good screen size, easy to use and set up.

- Fan is quite noisy. Seems slow .

- A little bit more paperwork with product would be nice, this is my first laptop, so a bit of advice on care etc would have helped. Otherwise I am most pleased.

+ The product in question was purchased for private use mainly for family history research, I liked the 17" screen, I have no negative feedback on the product, in fact I went on to purchase one for my work and recommended the item to an employee who had me purchase one on her behalf.

- To date I have no bad points to note.

+ Large good quality screen, very good value for money, fast at day to day applications, good standard specification.

- A bit on the heavy/large side, but its is good value. Could do with having a recovery DVD included, just in case.

- keyboard was flexing when first purchased, i think a clip underneath had come loose, a firmish push put it back in place and all is well now. due to 17" screen it cant be expected to be the most potable laptop.

+ Sleek design, ace screen resolution, my daughter loves it - it's better than her mates' laptops.
Dual core means fast processing & DVD re-writer and wireless internet allow for easy and convenient transfer of info.
Very pleased.

- OK, it doesn't make tea in the mornings.
I'm sure in a year or two it will look dated in some way, there will be much more memory available and big screen laptops may be out of vogue etc, but for now it's the bee's knees.

+ Screen is the main reason for buying this laptop. Very bright and clear and being a 17 inch with acceptable but also upgradable RAM, CPU and Hard disk makes it a very neat alternative to a desktop machine. This was my reason for buying as I thought my desktop was dying. It didn't in the end but still think at some point I'll get rid of it in favour of using the advent. Saying about the upgradabilty doesn't mean it under equipped. For a laptop, the CPU is good, 1 gig of RAM is good and 120 gig hard is excellent for a laptop of this price. This machine was a refurb machine and I cannot think of any reason not to buy a refurb. I would and already have recommended this machine to a neighbour looking for a big laptop. If it is in stock on the website at anything like the price I paid, I would say buy it quick.

- Nothing I can criticise the machine itself for the purpose I bought it. It would be a bit big for carting around over your shoulder but if that was what you wanted it for you'd buy the smaller 15 inch model. Purely personal preference, I would have preferred to have the option of using XP instead of Vista. The newer sytstem is OK in itself but I have a couple of other machines and I have yet to find a way to allow them to fully access the data on the laptop over the network to ensure all machines are up to date. No doubt at some time I'll find out how to do this and Vista will seem invaluable but not there yet.

+ Excellent value. The performance of this LapTop is very good. It was supplied as new, there is no difference between buying this refurbished model and a "New" model. Vista appears to use a lot of RAM so 2 GB would be better for running multiple applications. Performance, layout, screen size, noise levels, ports (including tv out), value for money all very good.

- Heavy but it is is a 17 inch screen so therefore acceptable. Glossy screen reflects too much. Looks good in the shop but not as practical as matt screen.

+ Great value for money; up to the job for a lot of multitasking. Looks smart and is not too heavy.

- Software and specifications support is poor. Pagefile not optimised for multitasking (but remedied easily if you know what you are doing).

- Could not get it up &running as there was apparent counterfeit software so had to return item

+ Price for a 17", although re-furb coming with a 12 month warranty it is as good as buying new. Vista Home Premium rather than Basic (if you want to have Vista)

- Battery life is not great but turning off wireless when not using it on battery helps. Also fine tune the battery options if possible for other power eaters like hard disk. Would have liked a numeric keypad in a 17" there is enough room for one. Supplied with 2x512MB RAM chips a 1GB chip would be better so only 1 chip needed rather than 2 with the originals needing to be sold.

- the battery life is poor, You only get about an hour without further charging, apparently this is a common problem with advent laptops

+ i brought this for a xmas present its got a lovely large screen very good condition to say reconditioned

+ This is the second recon I've bought and I'm just as happy with this one as the first. Just like a brand new one but without the retail packaging. Superb value for money.

- Battery Life is just about an hour.

+ The keyboard is well set out, and the frontispiece when you open the lid tells you what's inside which is useful. Most of the access points are on the right hand side and its perfomance is impeccable. I cannot emphasise that it is certainly a value for money product and I may consider buying another if they are still available and get rid of my desktops. The screen is magic!

- Not sure about the battery life, soon runs down. Have had problems, and am still having problems connecting to my BTHomeHub using wireless. It's perfect using wired access. Only has access for USB type printers which is not so good if like me you have a Laserjet which uses an interface cable. Not so sure about changing the RAM. Seems to be 512mb stick and 512mb on board which could be a pain trying to upgrade and its not that user accessible.

- Memory configuration makes it difficult and more expensive to upgrade ie: there are 2 512mb modules fitted, it would have been more sensible had a 1gb module been fitted in the slot under the keyboard therefore making it simple to upgrade to the maximum 2gb without having to take it to a technician. Also no manual or recovery discs came with the product as stated on the website.
