Acer Aspire 5535-704G32Mn Reviews: Windows Vista Home Premium 15.4" Screen Laptop computer

+ It is a lovely very user friendly laptop. It has a full size keyboard with number bits down the side. The colour and picture quality is excellant. It has a built in web cam.

- I don't tend to use it with out it being plugged in as battery does tend to run down fast. But this is are first laptop so it may be ok in comparison to others.

+ It has really got a good performance and it has good value for the money.I am very satisfied with the product

- The design isnt very gud but it's worth the money

+ Slim lightweight design packed with a huge hard disk and max 4GB memory.

- No AV out (yellow) although it does have a monitor out (blue) that most model flat screen TVs have a connector for these days. Only three rather than four USB ports and all on the same side.

+ Good price. Fine for what I need.

- Main bad point is the weight .Ifind it a bit on the heavy side.

+ PRETTY - SLEEK-LOOKING, GOOD WEBCAM, VOLUME BUTTONS EASILY ACCESSIBLE, LOTS OF USB PORTS.

- TOUCH PAD VERY SENSITIVE, CAN'T GET TO GRIPS WITH ZOOM FEATURE (HAVE RESORTED TO USING ADDITIONAL MOUSE TO WORK MORE EFFECTIVELY), BATTERY RUNS DOWN QUICKLY (USUALLY UNDER 3 HOURS)

+ Good design, full keyboard and number pad. Quick performance. Wireless Internet works perfectly with a good range. Built in webcam and microphone. Awesome screen.

- One of the little features it comes with becomes completely useless after a Windows update or two. Everything else can be altered, such as mouse speed and screen brightness.

+ Not used it a great deal yet -like it so far fast/ set up good easy to follow.
Best bit so far - having numbers at side of letters similar to home PC's

+ It is a smart piece of kit and does the job well.

- The battery does not last as long as I would have liked. The laptop is not set up to just go. I had someone spend hours downloading software to get it to do what it was supposed to do. I do not have enough knowledge to do what had to be done. I would have been disappointed if it were not for someone being able to do it for me.

+ Nice design and good solid overall operation.

- A higher spec video card would have been desirable.

- Graphics are not supportive for the power and memory the machine has. Had a fault with mouse pad which was corrected by downloading and re-installing the drivers

+ I cannot think of a bad point on the PC itself, except that I wish had come with Windows XP - Vista is pants !!!

- It has silly 30 days free trial type stuff like McAfee that I can't figure out how to remove without accepting it and then deleting. I have bought my own internet security and daren't use it until I can figure out how to get rid of this silly McAfee stuff which slowed my old laptop to the point of severe frustration. I've also bought Microsoft Office, there's a free trial on this laptop for that too which I also have to figure out how to get rid of!!! I bought a decent sized hard drive for me to fill up - not you! With Demo games coming out of my ears that I can buy later etc, etc, etc, I'd rather this was simply a good laptop with a good version of widows, not just an opportunity for you to sell me the earth and every bolt on going!!!!

+ The processor is good being able to process various media options

- There are two separate hardrives within the unit (not advertised) and intially the unit could not coipe with internet access over 30 minutes long resulting in the unit crashing. The laptop also overheated. The latter two items appear to have been sorted out by downloading a recommended (by Acer website) updated bios file.

+ Good design, decent screen size, easy to use, quick startup. Quick charge up

- Not amazing battery life on high performance.

+ Great amount of memory & therefore works really quickly.

- pad to move cursor around is so sensative, I keep catching it when typing and end up with some typing in places I do not want it!

+ it seemed relatively cheap

- it is unstable and freezes every half an hour or so, with or without laptop cooling mat thing.

+ It looked great and i loved the design

- Had to return it twice as it crashed constantly right from first boot up

+ Robust and attractive, good screen, keyboard and connectability. Some people might find the weight a little uncomfortable but I like the feeling of using a substantial machine rather than something which might break if keyed too hard!

- Battery (4,400mAh) is underpowered for the machine and facilities offered, I'm getting little more than 2 hours use from a full charge. The other 'problem' is the OS, Vista is power hungry and infuriating, I would have preferred Windows XP as an option.

- as this one is wide screen, i dont like the wide screen design. its too wide.

+ An excellent choice for all but the most avid game-heads. The speed at which the unit operates is better than my desk-top that is almost the same specification (and cost well over twice as much) and the clarity of the screen is excellent. I purchased my AS5535 because I have had an operation and it will be six months before I can sit at my desktop again, and the specifications offered for the price was an unbeatable combination. The order was made with some trepidation, as the last laptop I used, some 7 or 8 years ago, was a disaster compared to my then pc, but all my fears have been for nothing - I'm now not sure if I want to go back to sitting in a dark corner with my pc - I'm quite happy with my laptop on my knee!!!

- Slightly annoying, but nothing more, is that the mouse-pad is not central. I find that my hand wanders across to the centre of the laptop expecting the pad to be there, not off-centre to the left. As I said, a minor irritation that will settle with time.

- staying connected to the internet is the only real problem it seams to have, my daughters can both be in the same room, the dell stays connected at times when this one is often loosing and reconnecting to the web

+ Great laptop especially as a refurb item - it was as new! Since it was so cheap! Looks great, massive spec for the money.

- Only the battery really but we only use it at home so its not really a problem.

+ Came with buit in Webcam which wasn't mentioned, also ATI graphics. Boots up nice and fast and handles tasks very well. Arrived in as new condition.

- All USB ports are on the left-hand side so if you are right handed leads can become an issue.

+ Looks good, good spec for the money, fast, light and quiet, nice webcam

- Mouse pad far too sensitive clicks on things before u tap it and is in awkward place

+ good screen, fast internet browsing and plenty of ram.

- had to send it back as there were some problems, when it was returned over a week later the dvd drive wasn't fixed at all. All you had to do was put a cd or dvd in and you would know immediately that it wasn't working as it didn't even recognise that the cd drive was there. I needed it desperately for uni work, so I had to ask my brother to take the time to sort it out as I couldn't wait another 10 days.

- well i bought this computer refurbished and it has not worked for me from day one. the touchpad and clicks didnt work, the screen kept turning off and a lot other things went wrong with it. also it has a bluetooth button but no inbuit bluetooth device

- From my previous experience with Acer lapops, I've found they can be quite slow at times. However due to the price for what I paid for and the specification, I opted to go for an Acer. The laptop can lag and does take about 6 or 7 seconds to actually start playing a song and I've found that the programs take sometime to open and often says not responding breifly. Laptop is also quite heavy. Theres also a pointless bluetooth button, but no bluetooth hardware. And no button to connect to the wireless.

I have a new dongle still does not connect, aparently Vista Home Premium and the dongle are not compatable?! so why dish them out together, and where is the correct drivers?

- hard to get good 3g signal on usb modem stick and on laptop playing dvds isn't as smooth as on other makes

+ The laptop is easy to use. It comes with 2 months free trial with McAfee and the Microsoft Office package. Overall i find the product to be very good.

- then scroll on the touch pad i.e you don't have to be near the scroll sometimes and it still scrolls the page up and down when trying to move the courser. not OS disk or drivers come with the lap top just the OS key. what if you need to format???

- I used it just on battery power for about 5 minutes and in that time I it said I used up to 4% of the battery.

+ Excellent display, fast wifi connection, performance is very good

- Battery life is average, some issues with accidently zooming in / out accidently using track-pad
