- Because of the Linux operating system, I cannot use my 3G usb modem with it when I am away from home. I was not made aware of this when buying it, so I therefore have a very expensive paperweight!!!!!

+ Overall design, size, weight and performance. The wireless LAN card picks up my wireless network in parts of my house that my laptop doesn't

- Pity there was no option to have a RAM upgrade to 1.5GB. Also options for 6 or 9 cell battery would have been useful.

- Default battery doesn't last too long (about 2.5 hours) but I got a larger capacity (7200mAh) battery which is great at 6.5 hours!

+ I purchased this produce to carry on overseas holidays. It carries really easily and does not add much bulk to my hand luggage. It performs well with my holiday internet WiFi services enabling me to keep in email contact and Skype contact, making for cheap or free phone calls from abroard.
I can see my photographs at a reasonable size on the day they are taken and store them off camera.
It does just what I wanted it to do.

- I don't think I would like to use this as my primary computer. Not that I have found fault with the produict, just that I much prefer using a larger computer for prolonged tasks.

- The preinstalled linux is boring coz you can't install program.
No desktop place for wallpaper.
No CD-Rom makes it harder to install anything.

- The touch pad could be a little bit bigger but that is personal preference only and as it was always intended to use with an external mouse this is just an observation really.

+ Extremely portable - I can carry it around in my handbag with power cable. The battery life is pretty good, and for a netbook it is pretty fast. I was also impressed with the hard disc size, and that fact that it can run windows xp, office and a lot of other programmes that I need for work with no reduction in performance.

- In order to get the best out of the battery I did have to install a seperate piece of freeware that allows greater control over the behaviour of the fan. But this is not a particularly big deal.

+ Immediately available, ideal for both work and home related needs. Linux operating system with Open Office is great as it's interchangeable with systems in both locations. The PC itself is fab. Small, compact and pink (which means my son's won't play with it!)

- None really. Just a couple of "It would be nice if's...". It could come with a carry case, that would protect it. I'm using the fabric packaging until my birthday!! Would be nice if it came with the most up-to-date Open Office which includes databases.

+ Its so small and light, I literally just put it in my hand bag. The screen is really clear and easy to read. Its very user friendly, the keyboard is fine once you get used to the keys being just very slightly off where you are used to them being. Have recommended it to my friends.

- It has a very annoying habit of increasing & decreasing the screen size when you are on word or excel, its easy to fix as there is a bar at the bottom and I am sure its me brushing something as I type but that is the only fault I can find with it.

+ the overall tech spec is great for a machine that is so small, and it came at a great price. I didn't even have a problem with there being no optical drive as everything I needed came preinstalled and the software i did need was transferred onto a usb memory stick and installed that way with no problems.
I was so impressed with my Acer that I actually showed it to a friend who then ordered one the same day for her daughter to use at college

- I wish it had a longer battery life and the slip case thats provided does little for protection as its not padded

+ It's small and light and easy to carry around. The battery life is great compared to my old laptop (around an hour and a half on average).

- The touch pad is very temperamental. One minute my finger is moving on it to scroll down the page, the next minute it has decided I want to scroll down the whole page and does so very fast. It also happens occasionally when playing games and using the touchpad, suddenly the page has scrolled down and its a panic to get the play screen back.

+ Bought it for my wife who generally complains about the lack of intuitiveness of computer software particularly Vista. This little beauty has Windows XP which she is used to..so far she loves it and for the first time I hae heard no complaints about a computer. So if you are used to working with XP this is one netbook you should seriously consider.

- Would be good if it came with a built in thin film like magnifier although there is a software magnifier in XP for those less technological it would be a useful gadget.

Laptop Buyers' Guide

Manufacturer's Description

Acer redefines mobile connectivity with Aspire one, the revolutionary netbook packed with fun and powerful computing features in a diminutive 8.9" form factor.

SmartStart in just 15 seconds

From the moment you switch it on, the Aspire one is ready to go in just 15 seconds (with Linpus™ Linux® Lite version). That’s what we call a smart start. Once on, the interface is pure simplicity: a home screen divided into four areas that contain all the applications you need to stay connected, work, play, and organize your life on the road. And as your Aspire one is as unique as the way you use it, you can customize the applications on the home screen so that it’s just right for you. Fast, simple and indescribably chic. That’s your new life with the Aspire one.

Vision: One idea

How big is perfection? How small is ideal?
The Aspire one has an 8.9” CrystalBrite LED backlit LCD with 1024×600 resolution and an integrated CrystalEye™ webcam that offers just the right balance between easy-toread clarity and easy-to-use functionality. You could almost call it the perfect fit.

Power: One energy

Power comes in many forms. Often the smallest is the most powerful. The Aspire one comes with the Intel® Atom™ processor, built with the world’s smallest transistors and designed specifically for low power consumption while delivering the power and performance you need for full online freedom.

Style: One look

Your style is your signature. It is your identity, your personality your calling card. Your style tells the world who you are and how you live your life, both online and off. It is all you need to be yourself. Your style comes in different colours, each with its own individual character. So does the Aspire one.

Feeling: One freedom

Smaller than an average diary and weighing less than 1 kilo (models with NAND flash module), the Aspire one puts freedom in the palm of your hands. Freedom to use WiFi, WiMAX and 3G Networks* to explore new ways to connect, communicate and interact with the world you care about. Freedom to go beyond ultra-mobility. Freedom to be yourself anywhere you want to.
(* depending on network readiness)

Experience: One control

The Aspire one has one of the most intuitive interfaces out there that takes just seconds to learn, and smart software that keeps you productive, entertained and connected all the time. Why? Because your online world is a very personal place that changes every time you connect but remains familiar because it’s a world you create. One interface, a whole world to discover. Why do it any differently?
