Toshiba 40XF355D Reviews: Regza, 40" Screen LCD Full HD 1080p TV

+ The slimline surround gives maximum viewing and looks good. Nice platform foot. Looks good on a black glass corner stand.

- Cannot record freeview with TV in standby mode.

+ Beautiful design. Displays full 1080 HD perfectly. Generous amount of HDMI and other vital audio/video connections. Allows you to have a 40" picture in the same space a conventional 37" TV would use.

- Struggles with some standard Def images. Not 100Hz but doesn't seem to miss it.....

+ The unique design of the Toshiba is what really clinched it for me. futuristic design and you actually get more tv screen for your money. Picture quality is very good and pristine clear picture. Sound is o.k. although I would advise invest in a surround system to accompany this top end T.V.

+ Fantastic picture with a very compact surround; maximizes the space available with a beautifully designed TV.

- Would have been ideal to match this with a Regza link compatible Toshiba Blu-ray player. Perhaps now that that little battle has been conceded to Sony, Toshiba can retaliate by producing an equally impressively designed Blu-ray player, sustainably cheaper than the competition.

+ THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS TV IS THE FRAME IS SO TINY, SO ALL IS SCREEN, IT IS EXREMELY STYLISH. VERY PLEASED WITH IT. THE PICTURE QUALITY IS SUPERB.

+ Unfair to ask about image quality unless you have HD - which I don't yet

- Suprising how much heat given out - still saves having to put on a heater :)

+ The main selling feature of this was the bezel. If you display this as I have on a rear mounted stand it looks awesome.

- A non-HD source does not produce a particulary amazing picture up close but if you are sat the recommended distance away it just looks like a regular CRT.

+ The thin bezel makes the TV look much smaller than it should given the screen size. It has a good variety of connections, HDMI, Scart etc and the HD picture is very good. I was also impressed at the upscaling from a none upscaling DVD player. 1080i through SKY is good but not as spectacularly different from a normal picture as expected. There is more power from the speakers than expected and the pseudo surround is not that inferior from my previous true 5.1 setup with the added advantage of no trailing wires and speakers to get hoovered up!

- The remote isn't as intuitive as some and the Standard Definition picture does show a lot of artifacts on fast moving pictures although much of this depends on the source quality - i.e. new Simpsons look great older ones look like they were drawn in crayon!

+ Design is everything. Picture frame bezal means BIG tele without the ugly thick casing found on most other slim TVs.

+ Slim frame ensures that it sits at ease in any living room adding a touch of elegance. Great picture quality even on non HD sources. Plenty of inputs for a variety of different equipment.

- Only minor drawback is that the sound is not up to the same standard as the picture, but don't get me wrong, is still good quality. The bass could be a bit deeper, but is easily sorted by connecting a sub woofer to the built in ext woofer jack. ( No additional amp required)

+ Excellent design with really thin frame, good picture quality although I have not yet been able to run an HD device on it. Straightforward set-up and great sound compared with previous set.
