+ Definitely a better OS compared to Vista when launched and at much better price too!

- Although Windows 7 is great looking and more compatible with entry level notebooks/netbooks some may still prefer to use windows Vista Service Pack 2 which is a bit more stable!

+ Easy install, runs better and quicker than Vista. All my hardware detected, even runs my old 95 apps.

+ You get both 32bit and 64 bit discs and this version allows you to use XP mode (free download from Microsoft) should you have applications that don't run in Windows 7

+ I have upgraded from XP and so it is visually a lot better and has some very useful items built in

- S L O W..... Very slow compared to XP. Games freeze for a few seconds at random intervals. Hardrive to hardrive copying and or moving files is horrendously slow, copying and or moving files over a network is even slower!
I wish I had not bothered and stuck with XP....

+ Speed is excellent, very simple setup, like the idea of two disks 32bit and 64 bit, just wondered if that might be open to abuse, found all my internet and network setting, no hunting for passwords etc, A welcome change from Microsoft, it's not often that MS gets a huge pat on the back it's long overdue, so well done Mr Gates and your crew for a very to use and stable productA

- Don't like the dual boot, a splash screen would have been better, however that said that was only niggle

+ Backward compatibility and speed - its much faster than Vista and even than XP in some cases on the same hardware.

- Some really old programs, from the 1990s, are no longer supported. Peripheral hardware older than 4 years is unlikely to work correctly. Windows XMMode which is a prime reason for buying the "professional" edition requires hardware virtualisation support, again this is unlikely on older systems.

+ Very easy install butthen I had been using the beta's for 9 months and sorted out all the new drivers i needed.

- Incompatibility issues. Canot yet run my graphics card, which is a relatively new NVidia card - driver issues. Hopefully this will be resolved soon.

- Takes a bit of getting used to as I came from XP and can't find half the features. Where is that search function?

+ Best Windows yet, what Vista should have been like. This is the true successor to XP. Does not mess up your Windows Explorer randomly like Visa did. A lot less of those annoying User Account Control security prompts. More stable than Vista. Less of a memory hog than Vista, can run in 1Gb instead of Vista's 2Gb, so you have more spare. Only had the product a few days, but have wiped off all legacy XP/Vista desktops (got 2 copies of it at the special pre-release price), and never looked back!

- Can't think of any at the moment. Just a grumble that the Start menu program goups is the new style by default and you cannot change it to the "classic view" which I am acoustimed to.

+ internet is quite fast, uses less ram - starts windows faster - and it shuts down faster as well

- Internet Explorer is rubbish, it's the only weak point of windows 7. Trying to unistall it though it's built-in within Windows 7 unfortunaltely. Instead using Google Chrome. Much better than IE8

- It's only an operating system, there are no significant programs or even email client. Microsoft could have bundled Word as an inducement to buy Office, so I installed the free competitor "Open Office".

+ Seting up was sraightforward as long as you follow the instructions

- Not able to upgade from vista home premium. Had to do a full install. Still trying to find original discs to reload original programmes.

+ ease of use. user friendly and intuitive. easy to customise with a customizable scale of user versus automatic input. far better integration with existing applications and drivers only a few instances of older programmes needed manual update even with the crossover to 64 bit. a great improvement over the predecessor.

- So far i have found no significant faults with this product, early days yet but a promising start.

- Seems to be slower on the internet, Google Chrome offers much faster connection. Some programs seem to "hang" before responding and frequent program freezes with non-microsoft products.

- Teething problems, such as not shutting down properly, driver problems. Some games won't work. Waiting for service pack 1 as per usual.

My advice change to windows 7 if you have the chance to.

- A lot of time and effort to complete clean install from Vista ultimate and reinstall all programmes and files but worth the effort in the long run

+ Seems a lot more responsive than Vista, a good solid product, which comes with extensive user testing prior to release, relatively bug free too

- Compatability issues. HP haven't released an upgrade for my laser printer driver. I haven't, as yet, discovered how to network with my wife's pc (running XP Pro)

+ Very smooth installation - did all the hard bits itself - found all necessary drivers bar one less important item Altogether the easiest Windows changeover by far

- A little slow starting and shutting down even with a fairly lively machine with 4 gigs ram. Dont like when updates continue to install when you open up. Would have like a genuine internet speed indicator built in

+ Very fast to install (30 minutes or so), very easy to set up, loads of new useful features. Very impressed, especially as I was an early adopter of Vista and lived to regret it. Hate having to use XP at work now!

- Takes up lots of disk space when you install it. Can no longer choose the "Simple View" for folders in Windows Explorer (where you see the lines) and it no longer automatically scrolls to the right when selecting folders. Not much else really!

+ Like most peple, I didn't bother with Vista, but Windows 7 is a vast improvement. Easy set up for a clean install of 64 bit version seems to be more compatible than previous 64 bit versions of Windows. Would recommend.

+ Windows 7 64-bit is quite simply the future of computing for some time to come. It's is better than Vista and light years ahead of XP

- There are still some minor bugs to be ironed out, nothing major, so next Service Pack awaits.

- Not realizing having purchased Win 7 Pro and having Vista Ultimate I could not do a straight update.

+ XP mode provided you have a suitable CPU.

- No mail program included. Microsoft want you to use Mail Live. I much preferred the Vista Mail version and have reverted to Microsoft Outlook for emails. Had it not been for the absense of Vista Mail I would have rated Windows 7 professional 10/10.

- will not upgrade from XP without clean install---annoying and therefore becomes time consuing until up and running

+ all good so far I have not had one driver issue which was one of my main worry's with the upgrade. windows 7 work really well with my hp touch smart computer who needs a keyboard and mouse well I do haha it ok for about ten minutes then I get arm ache then have to go back to the keyboard and mouse boo!

+ More stripped down by default - focuses on essentials. 64bit version is worth trying - I had no problems on my computer. Big improvements in function over XP and in reliability and performance over Vista.

- 32-bit to 64-bit upgrade requires a completely fresh installation. However this is worth doing if you can anyway since it clears out a lot of accumulated fluff. As always with Microsoft there are still annoying bad points that should have been fixed. It is a pity MS cannot emulate some of Apple's obsessive attention to detail.

+ Much better than Vista. Crashes less often. When it does crash it finds the reason for the crash and points you to a solution.

- Like Vista it still has problems connecting to the internet via the LAN port. Can only connect using wireless adapter.

+ Installed without a fuss and worked with all my components straight away and no need to fiddle with settings to get it running games or software.
