+ Incredibly good suction and picks up a frightening amount of dust and fluff that must have been missed by the previous hoover. Easy to empty and clean. Good long cord.

- Very heavy and awkward system for adding a nozzle to the end of the hose when you just want to pick up dust at the very edges of the room or on the stairs.

+ Powerful suction and copes well with pretty much all you can throw at it.

- The catch and head pivot action got stuck as a result of some dust on the catch mechanism. Hose part can be cumbersome to use.

+ I'd forgotten how effective a good Dyson is. The carpets looked completely different, I guess my old one had not been doing a good job for a while. Very powerful and easy to move about and empty.

- It is shorter than my old one, which I find slightly less comfortable. Also I have several times hit the open the dirt container button instead of the on button - nearly a disaster - I think they may be closer together. It is very sensible that they have changed the hose arrangement - it was a nuisance turning the old one round, but pulling out is not as intuitive and I have to think what to do each time. One final thing I dont like the fact the brush and thin nozzle are now in one unit, and the brush is no longer round.

+ Good suction and effective cleaning in large, uncluttered areas.

- Unwieldy, particularly when trying to use the extendible hose, against which you always have to fight as it keeps trying to retract.
Leaves about 1½" unvacuumed at the front and about half that to the side.
Very large, high, square profile - can't be used properly in any sort of confined area. Everything has to be moved out of the way to leave a large rectangular area which is the only situation in which the cleaner excels.

+ Typical Dyson cyclone-type upright vacuum cleaner - does the job effectively and is very powerful.

- Accessory nozzles from older Dyson models do not fit, so be prepared to pay extra to buy new ones :-(. The "tube" for stair cleaning is less convenient than older style Dyson uprights, in that it has to be extended before it can be removed from the machine body for use. Some listings show this model as having the additional HEPA dust filtration, which it does not seem to have.
