I purchased this because we had just redecorated our living room and I didn't want it swamped by speakers in every corner, that were in place before. I was a little concerned at first because out living room is not a normal shape and the TV is not placed in the centre of the room. Even with our original 5.1 system we had trouble finding a sweet spot for the full surround effect.
Well I needn't have worried. The auto set up is quick and easy and takes everything into the room into account. (You even have to leave the room - in case you affect the reading). A load of weird noises come from behind closed doors and then after about 3 minutes the system is set up.
On initial start up the bass is deep, powerful and sweeping. The system comes with a demo DVD to set out all the settings and I was amazed just how well and defined the surround system sounded. Birds were heard tweeting in all corners of the room, and sound was rich and powerful (and I only had the volume on 20 /100!!)
Then there is the fine tuning.... a gadget geeks dream...
The various music modes also mean that this is a fully functional sound system as well as a home cinema system.
There is a sweet spot, but much bigger than in my previous system. I also had to place my speaker lower down that I would have liked, (almost at floor level), this doesn't seem to affect the overall surround effect much. - Bad points:

Remote looks a bit plasticy... shame when you pay so much !!

- Good points:
- Works perfectly in my lounge, which is rectangular, plus my sofa backs onto the back wall but it sounds great - very impressed and no wires and bulky speakers all aroud the room.
- Bad points:
- I could always use more inputs, but it has 3 hdmi and 3 audio inputs so it works for most I guess.

Nice and compact with everything in a single unit
Relatively easy to set up - Bad points:
- I bought the Yamaha to improve the overall experience you get when watching movies compared to using the TV speakers which it does in abundance. However the surround sound feature is poor, this may be my setup or room shape but I get no feeeling of surround sound at all.

Bass is amazing!
Sound truly fills the room and very well too.
Love having multiple HMDI ins, one HDMI out.
PS3 and VirginMedia box HDMI in, HMDI out to TV.

This extremely convenient Digital Sound Projector™ is low profile enough to fit neatly in front of a TV and is 3D compatible (HDMI V.1.4a).
The YSP-2200 is only 79mm high, so you can place it in front of most flat screen TVs without blocking the picture. The height-adjustable feet let you achieve optimum positioning. The feet can also be removed.
The powerful yet slim subwoofer can be used vertically or horizontally, so you can place it inside or outside a rack. The sound has been tuned to perfectly match the YSP-2200.
The YSP-2200 applies this sophisticated technology to precisely control the orientation of the sound by focusing it through multiple beams. The centre channel sound is heard directly, while sounds from other channels are heard after reflecting off walls. The result is true multi-channel surround sound that sounds just like a multi-speaker system – but without the need for extra speakers!
With a built-in 132W digital amplifier that efficiently drives all channels, an aluminium body that damps vibrations, precision sound tuning and optimum subwoofer matching, the YSP-2200 delivers 7.1-channel surround sound with outstanding clarity and linearity. The design is more elegant and less obtrusive than multiple speaker boxes.
The YSP-2200 achieves true surround sound by directing sound beams off the walls to reach the listener from various angles. The main mode is 5 BeamPlus2 for 7-channel sources. In addition, there is a wide variety of other listening modes. You can select 3 BeamPlus2 + Stereo, 5 Beam, Stereo + 3 Beam, 3 Beam, Stereo and My Surround.
