+ Crisp, clear screen. Easy access functions eg screen brightness.
Easy to follow user instructions for non technical user. Up and running quite quickly.
Power/speed to cost makes it good value.

- Fiddly to open - slide angled in to narrowing recess meaning only outer edge of slide accessible.
Stiff hinge - two hand job to open.
Mains cable to transformer too long and transformer to unit cable too short with overall length OK. (NB this is common to most PC's and similar units. Why not have the transformer much closer to the power point instead of in the middle of the length?)

+ Easy to set up. Graphics are excellent. Wireless connection works all over the house. Bought for my son who plays World of Warcraft, this laptop runs it with no problems.

- Battery life is not very long and it is slow to load log-in screen, otherwise no complaints.

+ Fantastic build quality. Fantastic laptop, expecially for the price. I LOVE the external volume control scroll wheel, a MUST when using earphones and even when not; it works much better than the usual Function or Media buttons as seen on other laptops, especially as it works in games where the others did not on my previous laptops.

- The air vent near the CPU (at the side near the top left of the keyboard) should have a warning saying what it is for and NOT to block it. I never realised what this was for at first until i went to drink my bottle of water and it was more than a little warm. The CPU can get VERY hot when encoding video.
Facial recognition little more than a gimmick (though I knew that before i bought the laptop; it was just an extra feature)
Could do with an extra USB port.
Also, I miss my previous laptop's 1440*900 screen and card reader (an optional extra not included in my model, though this can be cheaply added thanks to the smartcard slot).

+ Lightweight, compact, fast and 64 bit ! if you want that linux installation ! very happy with it, has run everything I put at it no problem, not any hard core 3d games as yet, but I don't see a problem. Screen is crystal clear !

- If it had a card reader built in, it would have it all.

+ Very quick! I thought I might have problems with keyboard and mouse as I have only ever had desktops but it didn't take long. I read the write ups before buying and a lot were saying the fan was noisy but I have not found this myself. Great laptop!!

- I don't know if it is a bad point or me but I do find sometimes the mouse has a mind of it's own, when you think it's locked in and you start to type, it can slide, but thats a minor detail.

+ The laptop is great and I found that when I called the Toshiba helpline the engineer was extremely helpful. The user guide is well structured and the features of the laptop are great.

- The wifi connection is weak but that could be down to my service provider. It was also very tricky actually getting the laptop connected to the internet.

The price of the average notebook has dropped considerably in the last 12 months, which has forced all the major manufacturers to release machines aimed specifically at the budget market.
