I looked at the other reviews for this DVD recorder and found most positive feedback to be correct.
It's a replacement for a non-digital DVD recorder I had but couldn't use after the switchover.
Had it for a couple of months and sofar no issues.
Programming guide is simple to use, so much easier that the video plus.
For some reason when viewing the TV through the DVD recorder the sound quality on the TV is far richer than when using the TV only. Anyone with a Panasonic flat screen 26" knows that this tv can be tinny, but this improves it no end.
Haven't tried the HDMI yet, using scart with no issues. The image quality is excellent and rich. Only on XLP do you start to see some blockiness. but with 8 hours on one DVD on XLP - you can't complain!
As it has Freeview built in I can view one digitial channel while recording another as I also have Freeview in the TV.
Previously bought an LG DRT389H DVD recorder but returned it because it degraded the signal so that I couldn't even see the old analogue channels let alone most of the digital ones (yes I tripple checked all connections and showed that it was the DVD recorder at fault). However, the DR20 provides all the channels without degradation in exactly the same position as the LG. So don't buy an LG DRT389H DVD recorder. Get a DR20 instead - it may be twenty pound more but it's worth it. - Bad points:

The main points as identified by some other reviewers seem correct also, but they don't bother me at all. You just get used to them:
1) It take some time to start up and read a disc, sometimes up to one minute.
2) The user interface on the screen looks a bit old, but it's simple to use.
Also, the remote has two buttons "Disc Menu" and "Top Menu". To me the disc menu should show what's on the disc, but it doesn't - "top Menu" does. Minor point and probably my brain at fault.
I can't record any more programs on RW discs that have other programs recorded by another recorder. But I can still view and delete them. I'd probaby need to reformat the disc once I've seen the recordings. No problem.
Sometimes there is a minor sound of the motor when recording/playing the disc. But it's not present most of the time, and sometimes dissappears after sometime.
No clock when on standby which can be a bit annoying if you want to know how long you have before recording something.

- I am really disappointed by the quality of this Toshiba DVD recorder - I used to be an advocate of their products, but i'm not buying from them again, which is unfortunate. I purchased this due to my previous Panasonic having a fault, but i'm now going to pay to have it repaired. My Panasonic is much easier to use, more ergonomic, simpler, has a better picture quality and a better sound quality. This Toshiba is incredibly difficult to set up, has a relatively poor sound and picture quality and is not built to my interpretation of Toshiba's standards. Thoroughly disappointed. 3 out of 10

- Bad points:
- As I am ages 76 plus, I find the jargon difficult to understand. I would like to see a section on really basic use.
