+ Compact size, really easy to use, takes good quality stills as well as great HD video. Cables connect to just about anything. Was just about what I wanted really.

- No image stabilisation in full HD, picture "wobbles" when panning. Software supplied with camera is very, very basic. Had to buy separate flash memory. Full HD video downloaded to DVD only playable on my blu-ray player.

+ you can't complain too much about the quality at this price. in good light, the video is amazing.

- no image stabilization at 1080p, available at 720p and lower. whole camera is plastic which makes it feel a little cheap. no night mode and flash does not work for anything but photos.

+ Excellent picture quality, just point and press the button.Playback quality good to check results instantly.Sound quality good unless it is windy. We think good value for the money.

- Not very easy for a left hander to use, but most things are designed for right handers. If it is windy it distorts the sound quality.Menu could perhaps be a little more user friendly.Battery life could be a bit longer. But overall a good product for the money.

Score 8.0/10

+ Excellent video quality even at 720p, which is just as well as stabilisation only works at 720, not 1080.
Sound is an enigma - it is quite quiet on playback BUT it does pick up audio from a long distance very clearly.
Photo quality is 5MP native and they are very good.
Colour on both photos and video are good, well saturated and natural

- When you select autoflash for photos and image stabilisation for video, the camera bizarrely forgets you have selected them when you turn the power off, so you have to set them again when you turn on again. There must be some Japanese logic there, but many people think it's weird and so do I.
The battery goes from 2 bars to nothing in minutes - and then turns off. Carry a spare!

+ reasonably small and light. Good HD picture quality if camera still on a tripod for example

- the moment the camera moves, the lack of image stabilization leaps out. watching the recording after can make you seasick ! returned this and bought a non-HD SD camcorder - will return to HD when sensibly priced cameras have decent image stabilization.

+ Excellent value for money. Very easy to use. Battery life has been much better than I expected.

- Auto focus takes a second to re-focus when zooming in. Anti shake mode not available in full HD mode.
Video editing software is a bit basic, but does allow simple editing of video files. People with short fingers may find the zoom control awkward as you have to stretch over the top of the main camera body.
