There are no big edges around the screen. The size of the tv is almost the size of the picture. It does what it says on the tin!
-
If you wall mount this tv, you need to fit the upper part of the nornal bracket to the base of the tv. This prevents interfierence, is does not mention this in the manual.

The picture quality is superb, I like the sound , when adjusted correctly it is good.
We like the fact that it can be switched off from the mains by the power switch so you do not have to leave in standby.
The set up was very easy, and I have connected a DVD recorder, and a VCR without any problems.
-
I are having difficulty connecting a Laptop to the TV, perhaps the manual could have given a little more detail.

This Tv has to be in my eyes the best value Full HD TV on the market to date. I decided to get a new TV as I had an old toshiba SD and wanted something to show the quality of my PS3 and improve on the quality of normal television.
The picture quality is outstanding when watching normal television via sky and on my ps3 its breath taking. The colours are so vivid and intense it's amazing how much better it is to a normal television and compared to other HD TV'S it blows them away to be honest. The Sound is really good as well and is very crisp with no distortion at all. Obviously if you wanted a surround sound system then it will be an improvement because speakers have there limits when built into a TV.
Some people may compare it to a sony and say that new sony tv's have 100 Hz, but there isn't much out there that uses this for what it is designed for and is a gimmick to be honest, Toshiba have stayed with 50 Hz but have technology built in that stops motion blur on fast moving scenes and when watching sports images and it works very well, I haven't seen any blurring or jerking at all. Also the full power down is a great energy saver compared to some tv's that only let you switch off the tv to stand by mode.
Overall this is the cheapest full 1080P HD TV I found and is also the best in its level across all brands. Well worth the buy and you won't regret anything, for me it's the best buy of the year.

The picture on this 1080P LCD TV is very good with very little or no pixel blocking evident. The TV’s styling is good and unimposing on the room. This 42" LCD TV is fantastic value for money!
-
If I had to say there was a bad point, it would be that the sound is only stereo and not virtual surround sound, but it is still good.

Looks Good from the outside, it's all screen with a small edge, the buttons are were you want them either on the side of the tv or on the remote control, so all's you see is the picture and if you put it through an HD system it's amazing,
-
before i bought this tv i read a few reviews and the sound was the only let down that i read, but once i'd recieved and set up my tv, i was pleasantly surprised, you do need to go into sound settings and play around with the dynamic volume and bass boost and stuff like that but once done your set and it's got decent sound, is it the best i've heard "no," but it's far from the worst, "i'm happy with it."

quite alot of inputs for various devices. Very good response rate and the image quality is excellent
-
My biggest gripe with this TV is that it does not have an optical (digital) audio input, only and output as i found out after i was told that digital sound inputs where supported. This may seem like a minor point but if you want to play an XBOX360 that uses the original cable (non HDMI) it means you do so without sound because in HDMI mode the cable requires an optical input which as i say, the TV lacks.

Expert reviews for Toshiba 42XV505DB
TechRadar expert review
The current vogue is for TVs to have large screens set in thin frames ‚Äì and Toshiba's 42XV505DB is no different, having been crafted in a surround of less than 1in. This makes the picture, but not the TV itself, seem larger. Combined with its high-gloss black Ô¨Ånish, rounded shape and silver trim, the effect is seductive.Connectivity is equally appealing, with three v1.3 HDMIs offering Deep Color and 1080p/24fps HD compatibility with Blu-ray decks. Unusually, there's a line out for adding a sub to the TV's built-in speakers.Vision onAt Ô¨Årst glance, the 42XV505DB's other key…

Screen Size in Inches

42
Screen size is measured diagonally from corner to corner.
Type of Screen

LCD
Most small flatscreen TVs have LCD screens. Some larger TVs have plasma screens. Some very new TVs have LED screens. Traditional TVs are called Standard or CRT.
HD TV

Full HD 1080p
‘HD Ready’ is a Europe-wide standard designed to made HD technology less confusing. HD Ready TVs must have
• Minimum vertical resolution of 750 pixels (in widescreen format)
• Ability to display 720p and 1080i formats
• An HDMI or Digital Video Interface (DVI interface)
Full HD is a higher standard. Full HD TVs have screen resolutions of 1080p and can output at least 24 frames per second.
Full HD is becoming common, but you won’t see Full HD on normal TV channels for a long time, so it remains optional for many people.
Built-in Disc Player

No
Some products come with built-in DVD players or Blu Ray players.
HDMI Interface

3
Like a scart interface but capable of carrying HD signals from or to other devices. You’ll need these to link your Playstation 3 or your Blu-ray player to your HD-ready TV.
Number of Scart Interfaces

2
Scart sockets are places where you can connect other devices to your TV. If you already have a DVD player, a VCR and a Playstation you might want to make sure your new TV has enough Scart interfaces so you don’t have to keep crawling round the back of the TV.
Contrast Ratio (X:1)

15000
This figure is designed to tell you how much difference there is between dark and light colours on the TV. It is quoted as a ratio, between the brightest white and the darkest black. 500:1 means the brightest white is 500 times more bright than the darkest black. Plasma screens have historically boasted better contrast ratios than LCD screens.
Screen Resolution (pixels)

1080p
The number of pixels the screen has. The more you have, the more detail the screen can display, given a high quality source.
A breakdown of resolutions can be found on Wikipedia here
Reflection Angle

178
Also known as the viewing angle, it’s a measure of how good the picture looks when you are not face on to the screen. Higher is better.
Screen Format

16:9
This is a ratio of the horizontal to the vertical size of the screen. 16:9 is standard widescreen format for TVs, replacing the older 4:3 format.
Brightness in Candela per square metre

500
Brighter TVs, such as LCDs, tend to provide a better experience in lighter rooms, whereas TVs with a lower brightness, such as many plasma TVs, are often better suited to darker rooms.
PC Interface

Yes
If you’d like to use your TV as a PC monitor you’ll need to make sure it has a port to allow you to connect it. This is usually a VGA port, but some TVs include a newer DVI port. Adaptors are availible to allow VGA to DVI and vice versa.
