+ Style and price Good for gaming (Fortunately that is why I bought it for my Son) HD quality via HDMI is very good, PS3 Blue Ray etc.

- Analogue and digital picture quality is just OK nothing special. Sound is nothing special Aspect ratios appear to have a mind of their own, one minute it's 16:9 then it starts up in 4:3 you have to set each input, it does not seem to auto detect.

+ The TV is good value and the picture and sounds are very good.

- The SCART output cannot be set to output DTV. Therefore the only way to record DTV with a DVD recorder/VCR is to have the DTV channel on and not switch over. Other TOSHIBA models did allow you to set the output of the SCART (AV2), but this one doesn't.

+ Easy to set up from the box, high quality HD picture, high quality sound.

- Insist on being plugged into an aerial to complete the set up, even if you intend to use a satelite or cable box as your primary source of signal. Slight pixelation in dark areas of an SD picture.

+ Lots of good points re quality

- The only bad point is that it takes AGES to switch on, change function and change from one channel to the next. I didn't think this was a problem at first but it is so slow that all the family finds it frustrating now. There is a helpful info box that comes on when you change to a new channel (info on this prog, how long left, the next prog etc) but because it takes so long to get there, it is only on the screen for a couple of seconds - too quick to read much

+ has a very nice stylish colour and look to it. picture and sound quality perfect and value for money.

- the control touch panel is in front of the tv. more stylish if it is at the side, slightly hidden like other brands. no s-cable input too or vga for direct pc link.

+ Good picture quality, good menu's make it easy to set up and use. Plenty of connectivity too.

- built in DTV tuner is very slow at changing channel and doesn't have the best picture quality. Built in speakers do not respond well to bass, but separate speakers can easily be connected.

Expert reviews for Toshiba 32AV555

TechRadar expert review

Toshiba's 32AV555 a real budget option. But, happily, it doesn't look it, because it has enough gloss in its finish and sufficient panache in its curved edges to make it prettier than some far costlier screens. There is evidence of its budget nature in its connections, though, as we find just two HDMIs, no D-Sub PC port, and no USB or SD inputs. Still, plenty of people would probably happily sacrifice a third HDMI and multimedia capability to save a few hundred quid. Surprisingly, given the threadbare connectivity, the 32AV555 includes Toshiba's respectable, if unspectacular, Active Vi…
