+ After using a Navman for many years, I was so pleased to start using the Tom Tom Go Live 740. It is so easy to use and very easy to understand. I was so pleased I bought my nephew one for his birthday. It also fits in my handbag when I leave the car.

+ A very sleek and lightweight device. Good menu options. The instructions are very clear and advise you in good time and you can choose whether you have a man or woman speak. Installing the device on your computer is very easy and the set up of the device is extremely easy so that you can use it straight away. It automaticvally re routes if you take a wrong turn

- The device did not come with a standard charger and the only way to charge it up was through the computer or in the car. The device is good in and around cities, suburbs and towns but if you are going to York for example or the country side, it may not be as reliable as we ended up in a lane in the middle of a farm and rail crossing. So its best to look at the route on screen and see if it looks right. You can view your route before driving which is very good!! It has it in text format and diagram. Occasionally, but rarely the woman on the device would not speak, but you can overcome that by pressing on the mileage number on device screen and any instruction is repeated. Using the menu options are not as easy as most make out but with frequent use, this should be overcome. Advice is always check your journey on the device before heading off.

+ I have found my 740 very easy to use and a great confidence boost in finding difficult locations.
I find it a real bonus using latitude and longitude to locate destination and I find many Continental firms ( like B&B Hotels) give this information for all their locations.

- I spend a lot of time in Spain so the 740 go is perhaps not the best model for me as I cannot use a lot of its best features as they are not available. I would like to see you produce a hood for the screen , as I cannot see it very well in bright sunlight. However its worst fault without doubt is the appalling pronunciation of Spanish and Fench place names which are unintelligible and cannot be understood even with place names I know well. I appreciate that Spain is rapidly expanding its road system. but Tom Tom needs to try harder to keep up to date.

TechRadar expert review

If you're seeking something more advanced than a basic GPS device, and want a sat-nav with all the bells and whistles, the TomTom GO 740 Live (¬£349 inc. VAT) is well worth a look. With full European mapping that covers 32 countries, it is one of the most fully featured navigation models we've seen to date. The device itself is stylish and well made, featuring soft-touch plastics and curved edges. The cradle that attaches it to your car's windscreen is also compact, sturdy and easy to adjust. The front of the unit is dominated by a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display with a decent resol…

Pocket Lint expert review

We knew it was only a matter of time before the connected TomTom landed on these shores, having seen the HD Traffic earlier in the year. Finally the latest generation of TomTom devices has landed, only about 6 months after the last iteration. But can the new 740 Live offer anything new to drivers? That Live tag makes all the difference...

Pocket Lint expert review

TomTom continues to try and push what satnav is capable of doing, but can the new features on the latest models really be that useful above and beyond the "getting you from A to B" mantra? TomTom threw us in a car with a unit to find out. Sporting a 4.3-inch WQVGA screen, the rather large satnav measures 127 x 85 x 23mm and weighs 224 grams...
