Score 7.0/10

+ The Android operating system will eventually do well; I'm sure of it.

- Screen is infuriating when you have big fingers like me, and to enter any text you have to flip out the keyboard. Cut and paste work, but there are no easy ways to select words or groups of words, so any editing is effectively impossible. For me, the clumsiness of editing killed this phone dead. I like to write notes and edit them on the move. On the G1, it's just not possible to do that with any kind of ease.

Lots of applications available in the store, but some are a mixed bag.
Sync of email, contacts and calendar with google infrastructure is good.

- IM is slightly poor in that only supports Google Talk out of the box.
Battery takes a hammering if used alot, and you will use it alot more than a normal phone.
You will need to buy a case, the sleave that comes in the box is padded, with no holes, so you can't hear it ring or vibrate.

+ Android is just an exceptional platform which deserves to be the de facto standard for Mobile O/Ss. The phone is a great sign of what's to come. Very robust for a touch phone. IMAP email works well - perfect substitute for PUSH mail (mine's on 5 minute updates) alternatively for true push, just forward all received mail to your g(oogle)mail account. Loads of application freedom (liberty and gratuity), and SDKs if you want to get stuck in yourself.

- Battery life extension would be welcome. Standby life is great, but the phone begs to be played with so you'll find that the browsing, games and GPS will munch through the battery several times a day without a little self-control. No video, massive shame. And somewhat bulky as you'd expect with the keyboard. Even so, still the best phone on the market

The google maps is exactly as it is on your PC which is excellent! Hell I love everything about this phone so far and I have had it about a month

- only draw back I find is the battery life. lasts about 7 to 8 hours, but thats because I have a lot of apps that require internet access, and having yoru GPS turned on all the time will help drain it faster, but I can charge it at work anyway via the USB data transfer cable that comes with it so its no problem really.

+ Synchronisation with google account and all google apps is very good. Sadly lacking a decent blogger option.

- The volume control is situated at the bottom when you slide open the phone and frequently end up turning the volume of while typing.

+ It's excellent to have the web browser and be able to access email on the go.

- the qwerty keypad takes some getting used to and is a bit small even for small fingers. it's hard to see in anything other than bright light too.
i would have liked some sort of facility for making notes too

+ Good web browsing, camera and music player. Easy text messaging etc using the built in Querty keyboard.

- Poor battery life if using 3G services. No bluetooth file transfer support, this should be made clear on the specifications list as it prevents you transfering files like music etc between devices. Only keyboard input for messaging, could do with a screen keyboard.

+ It looks trendy and some parts of it are easy to use. The browsing and emails features are great and were very easy to set up. The music downloads sound is of good quality and the best thing for me is the keyboard. Easy to send messages and emails.

- The battery life is dreadful I am forever charging it up and to be honest have even thought about getting a different phone. Not good for someone with a busy life style that always has to think about charging it up. Also not easy to keep pictures that are sent or numbers to keep in your contacts.

Summary of T-Mobile G1 Reviews from Across the Web

A great phone in its own right, although undoubtedly a phone in development. The design is a bit aging, but expect to be impressed by the user interface. The large screen and very user friendly touch screen are definite bonuses, where as the lack of a video recorder and 3.5mm jack are disappointing. The make and end call buttons near the bottom of the handset overcome the common over-sensitivity problems of touchscreens during calls. A worthy rival to the iPhone.
