- Good points:
- Nice picture and it supports additional storage / USB to access other media.

I was disappointed with this recorder and not what I expected from Sony. Has slow startup speed and quite poor when viewing a programme that is still being recorded or live timeshift. I have had recorder crash - fortunately not repeated since firmware upgrade but this is not the type of thing my mother could have fixed. Some controls not very user friendly especially for commonly used actions such as deleting a recording when finished watching. There is a "skip to end" button right next to to fast forward so very annoying if watching time delayed live TV and accidentally touch it. Why not have +10m and back instead?

- Good points:
- Not many.
- Bad points:
- The Sony SVR-Hdt 500 loses channels and even after factory setting the same problem recurs . I have now returned it to the seller and would not recommend it to any body.

- Good points:
- Very good picture quality
- Bad points:
- The software is terrible. It is not user friendly and is inflexible. The search facility cannot be saved so programmes after the after the current epg span cannot be found ie you know a programme will be on in a couple of weeks so you want to record it but can't because it is not in the currrent epg. All programme searches need to be re-inputted when you do a rescan. If you want to archieve material you need to have a dedicated device. This is stored in a sony format and cannot be edited.
