Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Like size & shape. Also that you can now transfer music from I-Tunes.
Easily to navigate. Liked that all 3 earplug sizes were included in package cos small ones suited me best - but see comment on bad points.
Bad points:
Headphones. Would be good to have the option of, say, 3 different:
plug into ear / hook over ear (my preference) / full headphones.

Jim, London

Score 8.0/10
Good points:
For my ears... a very acceptable sound, nicer than the IPod 4th gen which I purchased at the same time (first and last IPod I'll purchase, I think).
The 845 had good reviews but what I really wanted it for was the Noise Cancellation feature. Years ago I had a Sony mp3 with this function and it worked very well on flights.
Bad points:
The 32gb Ipod didn't even have a radio (shame on you Apple!). The 16 gb Sony does have a radio but it's not Dab and, something I find really irritating... it does not even record. I've since purchased a really dinky (it looks like the miniature clip-on ipod but isn't)... 12gb mp3 player for around £35 and it's brilliant... absolutely brilliant!! I'm delighted with it! Apart from the usual stuff, it has a radio and, and, and...it records.
My point is...how come a "cheapie" gives all these "goodies" when high-ranking, highly expensive "names" cannot - or decide not to.
Back to the Sony... yes, it's nice but... as with many of the reviewiers I concur that the sound level is way too low. (I'm 61 so I'm not a head-banger - I just don't to strain to listen to the music, etc., ) The max sound level shows a 30 level and I can easily listen to most music at this level. Reading the reviews, I feel Sony have upset a lot of (loyal) people and made them look else where for their future purchases. Sony have restricted the volume (which cannot be over-rided) to EC regulations. It seems Sony's attitude must be... "blow you" if the original recording levels were too low, or, if you're elderly with impaired hearing or... if you're in a noising environment... well, Sony's attitude seems to be..."sorry mate...tough!"
My new sub £40 mp3 player I mentioned above doesn't have this "level restriction" and I find half the volume is quite enough for me, thank you! How come "giants" like Sony get something so wrong? It beggers belief!
I had to return my purchase as I had been sold the last display model. Display models are "tweaked" to make them useless - (thank heavens for Google otherwise I wouldn't have had the slightest idea) - apparently retailers "demand" free display models so Sony hand them out. The problem is that the "display" model keeps reverting to "demonstration mode" and playing movies, etc over and over again. - No wonder the battery kept going down!
Sony seem to have now decide to not to include "Noise Cancellation" with their models, now, so I've given up on Sony. I wanted to buy this mp3 because of this incorporated feature and not be bothered with the expensive route of Bose, etc., I think Sony have missed out here - it was/is and area where they could excel and give "value-added" over Ipod. The marketing guys/gals at Sony should be given a "salary reduction" for their... er... slip-up. How can Sony get things so wrong?!
