+ Very good image resolution and clear picture, night mode is great.

You can choose an "easy" setting so it does all the thinking for you or you can get technical and use it manually.Very good quality not over complicated and excellent results. I bought it to film the kids and post the dvd's to my husband while he is serving in Iraq,I was so
impressed with this i've bought him one and sent it out and now he can send films back too.Seems to work fine in intensive heat and is probably not very well cared for but still excellent results.Buy this product not some cheap own brand imitation it's great!

+ if you are comparing this product to a non-digital camcorder, then the image is crystal clear by comparison and always sharp. if you are into features and options, then the Sony DCR 106 has it all - but again that is in comparison to older analogue camcorders. I'm sure there are other digital machines with far more features than this.

- The onscreen display is very difficult to follow, and it is impossible to find the function you require quickly when you need it. In my opinion this machine is swamped with too many features and I am still getting to grips with what they all do. Features should be available "at a glance" and it simply takes too long to find anything in the menu which is overly complicated. Many features need to be actioned every time you want them rather than staying "on" until you put them "off" and vice versa. For example, if you want to always fade to black you have to remember to switch this feature "on" before you start filming and again before you stop. Very time consuming. On reflection, I would not recommend this product to a friend for reasons of poor ease of use, even though I would never fault the quality of a Sony product.

- Very slow start up could miss out on inportan footage, better to be ready all the time instead of a quick press power on and than recording.

+ THE CAMERA IS EXTREMELY LIGHTWEIGHT IDEAL FOR TAKING EVERYWHERE WITH YOU. ITS HAS A QUICK START TYPE FUNCTION WHICH YOU CAN USE WHICH ALLOW THE CAMERA TO PROMPT YOU FOR FORMATTING AND IMMEDIATE RECORDING. THIS IS A GOD SEND IF IT IS A GIFT AS THE RECIEVER CAN HAVE AN IMMEDIATE TRY WITH THE NEW PRODUCT.
