Sony CMT-SPZ90 Micro Hi Fi System Hi Fi System Reviews: DAB with CD Player, No iPod Dock

+ Great design & performance. I wanted an all silver unit and this was the best out there at the time.

- Not a "bad point" as such but i don't see the need for a cassette deck in such a modern unit. Could also do with a USB input.

+ Good value for money

+ Neat compact design pleasing to the eye. Good use of space for 3 disc changer and the tape cassette deck used for display.

- Poor aerial attachment being hard to keep in position. Poor speaker attachment making it hard to adapt and add other components. Poor speaker design making it hard to position also combined with the shortness of speaker leads. Tape deck does not auto reverse.

+ Smart, stylish, easy to use. Sound quality is good even at low volume.

- We have discovered that DAB reception in our area is mediocre, to say the least, and could be improved with an external aerial. However, this model does not have the necessary connection with which to fit one. This is disappointing as we now have our (much looked forward to) DAB system, but are forced to continue listening on FM stereo.

- can't turn it off standby i.e. is always on standby so not good for the environment. Could turn it off at the socket but would then lose all the settings.

- rated at 50 watts rps...is this a joke? have to turn volume to near maximum to get a decent listening level...the speakers are the same as supplied with lesser models....very disappointed

+ It is neat and doesn't take up a lot of space. The sound is reasonably good and I am pleased with it.

+ Good sound quality on using CD's and radio. Still referring to the booklet as only bought this at Christmas. Also bought it because it plays cassettes which other hi-fi units didn't have. Ticked all that I wanted from a hi-fi unit plus also looks good and has that retro look when you take off the front covers.

- Cable wires from unit to loudspeakers could be longer if anyone wanted to place loudspeakers away from unit although it's okay for me. Some stations are still quite difficult to pick up on DAB, still resolving this as no antenna socket in back of unit.

+ good looking player with high wattage for that loud sound. ideal for the kitchen. 3 Multi cd play is great for just sitting and spending time relaxing

- would like a proper arial rather than just a wire

+ looks neat. Easy to set up (even for me of 76 yrs!) CD loading and use very good.

- can't find any really. Disappointing I can't get DAB, but that's the area I am in, not the set.

+ Good Points - Mostly everything about it. Sleek design, fits into the smallest of places. Sound quality is excellent. Goes with all our living room furniture. Worth every penny.

- Bad Points - Not alot of bad points. Speaker Cable could do to be a bit longer. DAB ariel is a bit flimsy. Although CD drawer itself is motor run, the multi change drawers are manual slide. But that's about it for the bad points.

+ This Sony Micro HI-FI System is a great product. Its multi CD disc player is first class, the DAB radio reception is absolutely perfect and its tape function is just great for playing some of those old tapes that have not been played for years. Congratulations on producing such a good looking and excellent Hi-Fi model.

- The only bad point is that the Speaker Leads are far too short and that Speaker Extensions have not been produced as an accessory that can be purchased seperately.

+ Happy to have a cassette player for all my old tapes. Good loud output for a small system. And has a DAB radio. The whole package.

+ great sound quality (even REALLY loud), 3 cds, D.A.B radio. It really was an amazing purchase so glad I bought it, I love it. Ten out of ten!

+ Multiple CD player and Cassette and DAB Radio

- The radio will only pick up certain stations (not the main ones) so I still have to use my trusty Pure Evoke 1 radio (which is in the same place as the Sony) if I want to listen to BBC Radio

- when the radio is on the clock disappears and it doesn't save the time settings which is highly annoying. And when you turn it on the cd changer takes ages to 'warm up' and makes a clicking noise even if your only using the radio.

+ The only reasonably priced mini-hifi I could find that had DAB and a multi-CD. DAB reception has proved excellent. Sound quality good all round.

- Minor design issue - doesnt turn on except by the power button from standby, eg cant just press a CD button, have to turn on and then press the CD button. Not sure that faux wood speaker cases are a good choice, dont seem to gel with the silver of the main unit but thats just my preference.

+ A neat, small model. The CD and tape functions work okay although the noise of the 3 x CD changer is rather distracting.

- The radio part of this model is disappointing as the thin wire aerial (which plugs in with a 3 pin plug is useless.. DAB stations are almost impossible to receive and when available come with a loud hiss. FM stations, whilst audible, also suffer with a hiss. SONY and the retailer are unable to come up with a solution so that the radio might be used with some enjoyment.

+ The ability to change a CD while another continues to play is really handy DAB receiver tunes quickly and the unit pefforms without distortion even at full volume, auto and timed off mode are useful.

the tape door is very touch senstive and opens too easily

+ It fits my requirement for a DAB system. I listen to the radio as back ground quite a lot but the family still need the other facilities, and the three cd player means they do not need to keep changing. We still have some spoken word cassettes which can still be accessed with the system, and I prefer the electronic controls rather than manual push button.

- The unit houses a tape deck which is a little bit "old hat" these days. But its an extra feature.

+ it's a good quality product, looks attractive in my front room and is easy to operate with or without the remote control. the ability to play mp3 music is the best feature for me.

Cassette wilol only play or record on single side - not auto-reverse.
Sound is not crisp - seems muffled particularly bad for speech programmes which is 90% of it's use.

- Free alarm supplied very poor sound. On activating the alarm the volume is automatically at such a low volume that being reasonably deaf, I can't hear it going off!
