Price, clean design. Sound output has good quality.

Viewing angle from side is poor. Communications via HDMI with other Sony devices is slow and clumsy. Menu system is poorly designed. Cable tie at back is a poor design as this will not hold cable securely so they drag without extra support.

Good looking TV with easy to use controls and all inputs esily accessible Good sound good picture (with small reservation see below)
-
Although viewing angle is stated at 170 degrees approc horizontally, once past approx 60 degrees picture quality deteriorates losing colour and detail. Not a major problem as viewing at wider angles must be rare and I think all monitors / TVs suufer this.

I bought this TV to replace an old CRT.
Overall, I'm very pleased it. I haven't watched any HD images on this tv yet so I can';t comment on that, but SD pictures are relativley good - some artefacts but that is to be expected with all LCD's. I have seen friends LCD tv's from different brands and I would say the picture quality of the Sony KDL26V4000 is by far superior.

None really, maybe that it takes a few seconds for it to start up once the 'on' button is pressed? But that doesn't bother me.

Like all LCD screens it is sometimes a bit fuzzy- it is almost as if it does not regenerate quickly enough, we now have SKY HD and the HD does look great on that- spookily 3d.

We bought an earlier model last year which we were very satisfied with and that is why we bought this one. The advantage of this model is the ability to swivel it round whereas previously it was only on the larger madels

Excellent picture. Automatic picture sizing. Good user control of picture parameters.

No individual control of RGB - everything too blue as usual. When connected to hi-fi the volume is not controllable by remote, though headphone output is.

Ultra chic design, looks great...not viewed anything in HD as yet. Sound quality is fantastic

As we are cable users we use channel AV2 to view tv and AV3 for Xbox and Wii. Have to go into menu and choose these channels. The old Sony TV we had only needed to press button up or down to get right channel. Minor point I sound really lazy, but TV used by Autistic son and it really annoys him

the swivel base is a good point on this TV.

The Menu could be in bolder or bigger letters - it is quite difficult to see because of the small print, even with my specs on.

Sound is excellent. It was really easy to set up. We thought we were in an area that could not receive digital, as our Freeview box had not worked with our previous TV, but plugged in this TV, and it's all there in digital (or analogue if we want). We're really pleased with the product.
-
Image breaks up occasionally, the way digital pics do. If you sit to one side of the TV, rather than directly in front, the image can look pale. The stand does not raise the screen high enough for you to put a DVD player close to the base (and therefore near to the screen), so the whole arrangement takes up more room on the shelf. But all these things are outweighed by the advantages of a high quality flat screen TV, that takes up a lot less room than our previous monster!

Screen Size in Inches

26
Screen size is measured diagonally from corner to corner.
Type of Screen

LCD
Most small flatscreen TVs have LCD screens. Some larger TVs have plasma screens. Some very new TVs have LED screens. Traditional TVs are called Standard or CRT.
HD TV

HD Ready
‘HD Ready’ is a Europe-wide standard designed to made HD technology less confusing. HD Ready TVs must have
• Minimum vertical resolution of 750 pixels (in widescreen format)
• Ability to display 720p and 1080i formats
• An HDMI or Digital Video Interface (DVI interface)
Full HD is a higher standard. Full HD TVs have screen resolutions of 1080p and can output at least 24 frames per second.
Full HD is becoming common, but you won’t see Full HD on normal TV channels for a long time, so it remains optional for many people.

Freeview
Freeview is free digital terrestrial TV. FreeSat is a free digital satellite TV service, which gives you HD programming from people like the BBC without having to pay for a subscription to a service like Sky. You need a dish to receive Freesat but not Freeview.

Number of Scart Interfaces

2
Scart sockets are places where you can connect other devices to your TV. If you already have a DVD player, a VCR and a Playstation you might want to make sure your new TV has enough Scart interfaces so you don’t have to keep crawling round the back of the TV.

30000

It is quoted as a ratio, between the brightest white and the darkest black. 500:1 means the brightest white is 500 times more bright than the darkest black. Plasma screens have historically boasted better contrast ratios than LCD screens.

768p
The number of pixels the screen has. The more you have, the more detail the screen can display, given a high quality source.
