+ I purchased this product on behalf of my mother who, whilst not completely old and decrepit is baffled by technology and thinks her VCR will explode if she sets it wrong. I wanted to find a set with a simple to use remote, as well as quality picture and sound. This more than fits the bill. The remote, which may appear old fashioned to technophiles, is a joy to use, unclogged by numerous unnecessary buttons. Its as simple to use as a Sky remote and the functions are easily accessed. The freeview reception is good, considering we live in a supposedly non-recieving area. On screen menus are also user friendly. The Bravia sets are not the cheapest on the market, but you get what you pay for. Overall, highly recommended, especially by my mother!

- I had read that the colour adjustment was a little tricky and this is true to an extent, as the factory settings are a bit garish, but a few tweaks of the easy to see buttons did the trick.

This is one of the more expensive models in its class, not that you can tell. Armed with a single HDMI input, Sony's addition to its burgeoning Bravia range of LCD TVs is Scrooge-like in its provisions. Bigger sets in its S-series have recently enjoyed impressive upgrades, which have included a second HDMI input and even a clever backlight, which adjusts the brightness of the panel according to what's showing on-screen and what the ambient light levels are in a room. Most small flatscreen TVs have LCD screens. Some larger TVs have plasma screens. Some very new TVs have LED screens. Traditional TVs are called Standard or CRT.

‘HD Ready’ is a Europe-wide standard designed to made HD technology less confusing. HD Ready TVs must have • Minimum vertical resolution of 750 pixels (in widescreen format) • Ability to display 720p and 1080i formats • An HDMI or Digital Video Interface (DVI interface) Full HD is a higher standard. Full HD TVs have screen resolutions of 1080p and can output at least 24 frames per second. Full HD is becoming common, but you won’t see Full HD on normal TV channels for a long time, so it remains optional for many people.
