+ Excellent picture quality, Ordinary Dvds are upscaled to 1080p and look just as good.

- Firmware is out of date but can be updated easily via ethernet connection, or if you register on the sony site you can download and burn your own upgrade disc.

+ ease of use and very good picture quality are the main plus points of this product. plus the outstanding value for money.

- the only two bad points are that it is not profile 2 out of the box and it does not have eight analogue outputs for owners of older amplifiers.

+ A nice slim piece of kit. Fits my ancient Sansui Stacking System like a dream but would look equally at home on any shelf. I like the S-video output and connecting to an InFocus Data Projector produces stunningly clear immages on Screen. The sound quality is outstanding and although I have not yet connected it to a 5;1 system it performs as though you are at the cinema simply by running it through my Sansui Amplifier and Stereo Speakers. Blu-Ray as well as Standard DVDs disks are handled perfectly as was the DVD I crearted from my Sony Cam Corder which films in 1080i HD. The HDMI output will come in handy when I get a Sony Bravio TV. No TV tuner which is excellent for us people who hate TV and do not want to be oblicated to buy a TV Lisense just to use the DVD player. I was able to update the installed software simply by leaving it attached to my Broadband Modem using the NetWork connection.

- No bad points

+ It's not about good or bad points really. The player is very good but I have an upscaling DVD player for a fraction of the price that gives just as good a picture quality as this blue ray unit.

Expert reviews for Sony BDP-S350

PC Advisor expert review - by Lincoln Spector

Any way you look at it, the Sony BDP-S350 is an excellent Blu-ray player. It's well designed and easy to use. It supports high-end Blu-ray features such as BD-Live. And it produces good-looking images.

TechRadar expert review

Until very recently, if you were partial to Sony, looking for a Blu-ray player and weren't interested in the company's PS3 games console, options were extremely limited. While the company's HD disc spinners were decent performers, none of them allowed access to key features such as BD-Live and BonusView. Happily, that all changed with the introduction of the BDP-S350.Attractive menusKey to its success was the inclusion of an ethernet jack, which meant that the deck was able to download Ô¨Årmware updates to make the BD-Live capability work. The S350 adopted the same dual-axis menu appro…

Full HD 1080/60 p & 24p True Cinema Video Output

Most of all Hollywood movies are shot at 24 frames per second, and Blu-ray Disc™ movies are mastered at 24 frame per second, so it is only fitting that the Sony® Blu-ray Disc™ Players can output your films at 1080/24p for a true film-like experience at home. Of course, Sony® Blu-ray Disc™ Players can also output at 1080/60p for more traditional HDTV sets on the market. Either way Sony® has you covered for the best picture possible in Full 1080p!

Quick start-up mode

Quick start-up mode allows operation in Approximately 6 seconds from when Sony® Blu-ray Disc™ player is powered on.

Dolby® TrueHD decoder built-in

Dolby TrueHD delivers lossless studio master quality audio designed specifically for high definition entertainment like Blu-ray Disc™. An incredible sound stage, dynamic range and a stellar Home Theater experience await you with Dolby TrueHD.

Dolby® TrueHD /DTS®-HD bitstream out over HDMI™ (V1.3)

Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD gives you sound quality that matches the crystal clear image of Blu-ray Disc™. With up to 7.1 channels of surround sound and audio that is indistinguishable from the original studio version, Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD promises you an extraordinary surround experience.

DVD upscale to 1080p

DVD Upscaling via HDMI™ gets the most out of your existing DVD collection by upscaling standard definition video to near HD quality.

Precision Cinema HD Upscale

Precision Cinema HD upscale uses high bandwidth digital-to-analog conversion and processing to detect image changes at the pixel level, rather than at the level of whole scan lines. Additionally, separate algorithms are used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts.
