+ Its a dream to use - having always been a 35mm person this is my first digital camera and I can say i am finally convinced. Its so good my dad is getting one who is a semi pro. cant rate it highly enough. The only down side is the not clear instructions regarding the card you need for storage. Other than that its as I say a dream!

- heavy and no protection supplied for screen which easily damages.

+ I've been taking photos for nearly 40 years but this is the first SLR I have owned. Shooting with this camera is a great experience - very direct, lots of control. Battery life is fastastic - took it away for a weeks holiday and didn't need to recharge. Camera focuses as you put your eye to the view finder - nice feature.

- No depth of field preview. Kit lens a little soft - but still fantastic value.

+ Actually, A100 camera, not A200. Very good performance for the price.

+ 9 focus points, quick auto focus, good kit lens, looooong battery life, manual/auto setups, high range of ISO, konica/minolta lenses compatible, lots of available Sony lenses.

- only 3 frames per second, not many features, should be more programs in auto mode, no live view, you can't lift the mirror to check focus, expensive external Sony gear

Expert reviews for Sony Alpha DLSR-A200K with 18-70mm lens

TechRadar expert review

The Sony A200 is the least expensive model in the company's digital SLR range, and replaces the A100, Sony's first digital SLR.The A100 was, in fact, a development of Konica Minolta's Dynax 5D, which Sony bought up when Konica Minolta decided to exit the SLR market. And while the A200 is now a further generation removed, there are still echoes of the Dynax in the design and handling.Inside Sony's latest Digital SLRThe most obvious example is the power switch, which is still at the back of the camera and the top left, and which still prompts an odd cacophony of mechanical shunting noises…
