+ Very solid and stylish construction, excellent quality.

- Why have a cooling fan? Waste of energy, and it means some foods can't cool slowly in the cooker as required.

+ I love it!!!! I have waited a long time and worked hard to get this cooker and it was worth all of that. I have just had a new kitchen fitted which I also love but I am worried that it dosn't do my SMEG justice. I enjoy using it and sit in the kitchen just gazing at it!! Food is everything in my family and so we shall love it and look after it.

- Poor indent in back for accepting the fixed gas connection, not deep enough so gas connector had to be altered so cooker woul dfit flush

Conventional ovens heat from the bottom so the top of the oven will be slightly hotter than the bottom. This is useful when you’re cooking lots of different dishes at a time. However, they do take a little longer than fan ovens to heat up. Fan ovens circulate the air so that you get an even temperature throughout the oven. They are quicker to heat up which means they save on energy and time. Multifunction ovens give you the flexibility to use different methods of cooking. They usually have both fan and conventional settings as well as pizza settings that will only cook from the bottom, giving you a crispy pizza, or top-only cooking that is very useful for browning.

Self-cleaning ovens can come with catalytic liners or pyrolytic programmes. Calalytic liners are the bumpy surfaces which line the inside walls of the oven. They absorb the food and grease and break it down so that the oven is easier to clean. Pyrolytic programmes run for a couple of hours and burn off all the grime in your oven at temperatures up to 500°C. As it gets so hot, the oven door usually locks so that all you need to do is sweep up the ash that’s left over at the end.
