- Picture is top class when viewing 1080p sources but sadly below par with lower definition input eg Freeview and regular Sky transmissions. Additionally, given that Sky HD is transmitted in only 720p or 1080i the additional outlay for the 1080p capability is pointless unless you regularly watch HD-DVD or BluRay DVDs. There are many large screen tvs out there producing a better image with standard resolution and Sky HD resolution input. Picture settings have both backlight and brightness controls. It is very difficult to get the balance right between these two settings and it can be necessary to adjust them depending upon the input souce.

+ Hi-Def image is fantastic. Great sound. Easy to use and set up. Freeview, fast teletext, 3 HDMI ports and FULL HD 1080p.

- Standard definition is not as good (as with all HDTV) as a SD TV, but the picture quality is better than alot of other HDTV's I've seen.

Dave, Slough , “Not easily pleased. picky”

Score 9.0/10

+ Excellent picture quality even on Standard Definition.
Easy to set up
Plenty of inputs
Multi function controller is useful
Got me brownie points with the wife for style
Very good hand book

- Sound was just acceptable, but like most thin border flat screens external sound is a must.
Multi function controller could do with a few more SKY controls, like programme synopsis.

Score 9.0/10

+ Great design, sleek and with a big screen size without too much border.
The picture on HD broadcasts is really clear and superb to watch. The sound is also very good, much better than previous models.

- Stand is very wide, which prevents the screen being close to the wall. The alternative would be to wall mount, but I prefer to sit on a table with the sky box, dvd ext.
Sugets the stand is made thinner (behind the screen) so the screen can sit closer to the wall.

Expert reviews for Sharp LC46XL2E

TechRadar expert review

Pump me full of Sodium Pentothal and I'll confess that Sharp's first 100Hz LCD TVs, the late RD2Es, were basically flawed. Or, put another way, ropey as heck. The engine Sharp used to double the PAL refresh rate rejoiced in going over the top, making pictures look unnatural, processed and often just plain weird. So Sharp's second-gen 100Hz TVs come to market with quite a big credibility gap to bridge. Enter the LC-46XL2E, new champion of Sharp's flatset. Vital statisticsA look at the form book indicates that this screen should be a notable improvement on what's gone before. While Sharp…
