+ Great image quality; good screen size; quick start up; easy to navigate through the menu; good range of settings, including various levels of high definition; good battery life; great macro mode.

- I'm not sure I like the angle of the 'pistol grip' style - you often need both hands to keep it steady on zoomed shots. It's not the camera's fault, but at full HD resolution, you will need a really fast computer (and preferably 64 bit processing) to use editing software like Pinnacle Studio 11.

+ Unbelievable light. Fit into your hand perfectly - very comfortable grip. Amazing image quality. AVCHD on SD means easy transfer to PC (playable on a Blu-Ray player also). Plugs right into an HD TV via HDMI.

- No function to fade in/out whilst recording. Still photo quality only reasonable (buy a sperate digital stills camera!).

+ Excellent easy-to-use product that produces high definition quality video but be cautious about the ability to download the recorded video into a computer and expect to have smooth fully synchronised playback.

- None of the software supplied seems to provide sufficient resource to play back the highest definition recording adequately. None of the instructions warn that you will need to seek alternative methods to do so and these are seemingly non-existant in freeware and therefore add a substantial cost to the product. Have viewed many websites to get what is needed and only find continually frustrated users. Help!!

+ The 720p 60 frames function of the camera is useful; allowing shooting of fast motion events such as sport and motion cinematography.

- The 1080i function is heavily compressed and, at present, is hard to edit.

+ picture quality is excellent, battery great, but worth carrying a spare, just in case!
recommend a 16GB (4hrs recording time) or more memory card, this will ensure no issues, although if you have a portable hard disk, you can transfer the files easily to make room.

- compatibility with Apple mac caused some issues, however easily resolvable with some additional software downloads.

+ large choice of image sizes for stills and movie, 2 speed zoom for fast or slow zoom in-out when filming reduces shaky movies. It is a good still camera too with all the usual image functions. very practical shortcut function on selection button avoids the need to scroll down the menu for frequently used settings.Movie editing function allows to easily optimize memory space available.

- wind noise; the reduction function doesn't seem to have much effect. I haven't tried the mic input.
I need to be further from the object than i was used to with a compact digital camera. This is a problem when shooting large objects, builings, or inside a room. this is why I ordered an additional wide angle converter which adds a third to the price.

+ Well I was looking for a digital video camera and a digital camera as we were going on holiday but when I saw this I was hooked not only does it look one of the best things you can buy you can keep it in your pocket so easy to use as there are only a few buttons and you can take photos even when your recording your movie, it's brill.

- Not too many bad points but I would of liked it to have some kind of pause button when your recording as you have to stop it every time and you end up with loads of little clips on your memory card, but saying that you can clip them altogether, also accessories, I have been after another docking station for this model as I would like one with my tv and one with my mac, and I have not been able to buy a stand alone docking station looks like the only way you can buy another is to buy another camera.

Expert reviews for Sanyo VPC-HD1000 EBK

TechRadar expert review

Not only does Sanyo's new HD1000 record true 1920 x 1080i HD video to high capacity SD cards but it offers a host of features that other manufacturers seem intent on dropping. Even Panasonic's SD5 AVCHD camera has ditched features such as a microphone input and headphone output that made the previous model, the SD1, such a good buy. What you do get is a cam with more features than you can shake a stick at and which gives a surprising level of manual control - even for a new user.Given that we're now experiencing an explosion in the number of 'Full' HD camcorders entering the market (to…
