Samsung NC10 - with 7 hour battery (Netbook) Reviews: Windows XP Home 10.2" Screen Laptop computer

+ Great performance for video and every day use such as word processing etc.

- Small mouse pad but still works well, more than made up for by the near full sized keyboard.

+ The battery life and the weight...perfect for travelling.

- Nothing much. Minor quibble is that it's not as attractive as some models in the same price range, not that it's ugly, and this netbook outperforms any other at this price regardless

+ Its small, but no compromise on usuability. Screen size still good and keyboard still completely as usuable as on full size.

- Worse thing about it is that when you close it there's no catch for that satisfying click of keeping two sides together like on most laptops. And screen is also very slightly looser on pivot (angle) than I'd like. But these are both two VERY minor picky points.

+ You can tell it's a quality product,it looks great the screen definition superb & the keys very are very responsive.If you are looking for this type of machine you won't get anything better for the price.

Performance is a coprimise in this type of computer but it does run XP, web browsers and office software well.

+ with a sleek black finish it looks the business (until the dreaded fingerprints arrive) but with a fantastic battery life of almost 4 hours when running games applications and 5 -6 hours when surfing its all your going to need for a netbook.

- The mouse pad is a little small but you get used to it.

+ Everything is good and sleek about this laptop, definitely a top buy and very silent atom processor.

- None really, ok it doesnt have DVD drive but what do expect it has everything else on this tiny 10.2" laptop.

- Screen size doesn't support any photoshop R.A.W. files as it doesn't open the full page but transfer is okay to a memory stick .

+ goog points are it compact size and goodsized keyboard. The screen is ok you get used to it but would prefer a littlbigger. The battery life is excellent.

- the screen is brokenaccidently and wonder how tough it is? The software freezes quite often which is really annoying. The screen is ok but would prefer a littl bigger.The wi fi sometimes has trouble picking up a signal but think it is as much to do with the ISP as the machine

+ Excellent Battery life. Windows XP os. Positive and good size keyboard-useable for long periods. Large hard disk.

- Naff carry wallet. Polished external finish is easily marked, fingerprint smears etc.

+ Perfect for most things like email and web browsing. Keyboard is great.

- Trackpad occasionally doesn't work smoothly. Screen size limits some things like photo editing and split screen previews for email etc (but obviuosly, if you want something small and portable, then that's the compromise you make!). Other than that, it's great.

+ I have had Samsung NC10 for about 3 weeks now and it is a brilliant product. The battery life is about 6 hours,

- There are two only bad points. One is the screen does not go back beyond 45 degrees which can be frustrating depending on your seat position. Also when using an external monitor the vga out connection should have a screw connection to hold it in as this can easily fall out. If thinking of buying I would certainly consider the latest version of the NC10 which is available from the US but is slightly more expensive. The new NC20 is 2" bigger and starts to creep towards not being as portable as the NC10.

+ Fantastic Looking design, but robust enough for every day use. Good size keyboard with quality feel. Good size hard drive. There will always be a trade off between battery life & weight, and I think this little beauty has got it right. It runs fairly cool and quietly as well. This is a fantastic bit of kit for the money.

- Being picky, but the protective sleeve could do with a bit of velcro to keep the flap down.

- Can be a little slow if on websites with multiple pictures (e.g. facebook), large file downloads and whilst undergoing automatic updates.

+ Battery life. Full extended desktop graphics support. 3 USB ports. Bundled Samsung utilities don't lock you out of any of the normal XP configuration options.

- Sometimes a bit slow to load apps. Wide ratio screen is a pain because you have to scroll down to see the bottom of conventional web pages.

+ Good size keyboard (almost full size) and big, bright screen.

- Only comes with 1 GB of RAM. However, it's easy to upgrade to 2 GB, and I would recommend doing so to get better performance.

+ Battery life is great, lasts all day. Nice and lightweight. I was worried about the keyboard being small as I'm used to a regular laptop but it's fine, not that much smaller really. It's really cute. The choice of colours is good but I'm glad I went for black, didn't fancy a white keyboard (get dirty too quick I bet).

- It took ages to set up, and has done a 50/50 disk split which I now can't reverse. What's the point of this? The backup only needs 10gb max so why isn't this the default???
Also, the screen settings can't be adjusted to fit some things on. The settings obviously assume you have a bigger screen and you don't get a scroll bar to scroll down. For example, if you reply to an email in hotmail with people cc'd in you can't actually get to the bit where you write the message as it's off the bottom of the screen.
For everything else it's great, I love it!

+ The Samsung has proved to be a very good purchase, bought as a gift for my wife a computer novice and she is managing it very well. The keyboard is larger than most net books and the design of the Samsung surpasses others. The WiFi connection was excellant and set up very easy. Thoroughly recommend

+ Wonderfully small, great battery, great wireless, very fast given the spec, loads of HDD space, very bright & clear screen, good sound though a little quiet (they are tiny though so forgiven).

- Screen resolution - would like to see it a little higher as some virus scanning windows (non resizable) stick off the bottom of the screen so that buttons cannot be seen. Don't like the screen resize function on the mouse pad either... I would never use it and end up doing it by mistake. Perhaps I'll see if you can disable it!

+ Quality build, Good Keyboard, Good battery life - until you add a mouse. Wireless set-up was a breeze, loaded programs by copying CD's to USB key - installed no problem. Glad I bought it as a second home PC.

- Now I can be antisocial in the lounge too!

- LCD screen - A lot of machines have 2 smudge marks in the left hand quadrant of the screen (including my own). Only really visible on a white background.

+ Not bad looking, good sized keys, very portable, especially after lugging a 17" Tosh M60 around for the last year. Its a pretty decent netbook for the price and everyone seems to like its looks.

- Mouse pad very small and awkward to use. Sound quality is terrible but thats what headphones are for. Seems to be running slower now even after disc clean up/defrag and the usual clean up tools but it might just be a bug I've missed.

+ Its just a well built small version of a laptop with good battery life albeit without an optical drive. It's got enough RAM, HDD space and it comes with XP so installing programs is a breeze. After 2 minutes the keyboard feels quite natural to use despite its 93% full size. It also looks quite smart too.

- The trackpad is too small for prolonged use and that was with removing the side scroll areas and instead installing 'two finger scrolling' software. That said - the multitouch on the synaptics touchpad is quite swish. I should also mention that the speakers are very quiet; but I believe that is the case with all 'netbooks'. Also not a very bad point but the lid looks a bit purple under fluorescent lightning - fine during the day tho.

- Battery should last over 6 hours on a full charge, it did this for the first time.
Now on every charge the battery is lessening.
After approx 5 charges it is now at 4.55 hrs
So it is obvious to see that in a years time there will be no battery left!!!

- Slightly more expensive than others, and although battery life is very good (5 hours), it's not quite as good as the specification would suggest. Buyers of netbooks need to b resourceful in loading software as there is no CD drive.

- Touch screen can sometimes throw you when 2 fingers at a time send the image to a miniscule size. Also, as i'm righthanded, wish the mousepad was located more to the right side. Nothing major asides.

+ Beautiful machine, good in all respects. Small, reasonably light, easy to use and very reliable. I love my NC10 and often use it instead of my HP laptop or Dell laptop. fantastic for use as a browser and mail machine when travelling abroad.

- Heavier than some alternatives - but mainly due to HDD and if weight is the main criterion use an SSD. I use 2 desktops and 2 laptops and find the NC10 a great machine for ultra portability, and the only noticable downside is the lack of a CD drive (but an external drive is easy to use). RAM a bit light on occassions but 1Gig enough for most uses.
