An impressive amount of memory, and both keyboard and screen are great quality. I wouldn't believe the battery time though; presumably you can get that time if you don't so much as breathe on the laptop, but the moment you want to actually want to use it, it eats power. If you're also hoping to run a usb DVD drive off it, you might get the length of a movie out of it. Still the best on the market though - it just bothers me that they feel the need to exaggerate. To date, it seems the best netbook out there by far, though like all its peers, it seems to suffer from rather cheap plastic interior bezels once you've opened that wonderful shiny lid. Aside from that, build quality seem great to date; to give a comparison, I've previously had the ultra-compact Vaio and a neat little Compaq tablet. This one stands head and shoulders above its present competitors.
-
No bundled software at all, which considering the price is unforgivable. Having had a white keyboard before, I also wouldn't recommend one, unless you like having that attractive ground-in dirt line to the edges of all your nice white keys which you have t get out cotton wool buds and alcohol to clean (yes I do wash my hands - you still get it!). Also if, like me, you take and use your laptop everywhere, you'll soon find that you blind yourself on a sunny day if you look at the white keyboard a lot when you type! I chose the blue, which I haven't regretted yet, though as I said, the bezels once you open it up ar a little cheap and tacky, but then that's a common feature of the new batch of netbooks for some reason. All in all, there's nowhere near enough bad points on this little beauty to let 'em dissuade you from buying it.

I read a lot of reviews and tried out some alternatives from Acer and Asus and this came out on top in many ways, but particularly its overall specification.. It connects very easily to the internet and I have loaded MS Office via an external DVD and it copes fine with basic Word and Excel files. The Integral SD slot allows me to easily view my photos. I have used both iTunes and LastFM and quality of the sound and volume control perfectly adequate. Great Keyboard compared to some alternatives.

Very light and compact with normal-size keyboard keys (most keys are in the expected position but the left shift button is absent which can be problematic). Sleek and stylish look - this has one of the best, if not the best appearance in comparison to other netbooks on the market. The thin metallic strips that runs around the circumference of the netbook is really a great touch. Good battery life - I have used this for 3-5 hours intensively before without charging. Without intensive use I imagine the battery could sustain itself for up to 8 hours as the manufacturer indicates (so no lies on their behalf).
-
The Intel Atom is not a strong processor in comparison to normal laptops. To get an idea you could probably run Internet Explorer/Mozilla Firefox with 6 or 7 tabs/windows open and loading up to which point the processor would struggle to let you run any other serious application like an office application or mp3 player. However if you're buying a netbook then this is to be expected I guess.
Another major negative is some of the keyboard glitches and the finger pad design. There are a couple of keyboard glitches for instance if you hold Shift or Ctrl and touch the mouse pad it will zoom in/out as there is an in-built mouse scroller (a stupid idea). This can be frustrating when typing an email for instance as the zooming in/out actually requires quite a bit of memory and can take a while to correct. However there may be a way to disable this annoying feature I haven't yet checked. This problem is enhanced by having such a sensitive finger pad. The finger pad is also quite poorly sized, my main concern is that it is too short. The width of the pad is fine but most people who have used a normal laptop will struggle to adjust to the new shape (widescreen shape).
Overall I have been satisified with the Samsung NC-10 and have not encountered any major faults or design errors. I would recommend this netbook to someone who is looking for a stylish, highly portable computer and only wants to surf the net or use very basic applications (i.e. Microsoft Office).

I have only found two bad points-the bag that comes ith the laptop is a bit flimsy and doesn't fasten and the keyboard comes set for the American market-so make sure you change this setting before trying to use.

It is well worth spending that little bit extra on the most expensive option as the whole netbook feels and looks very classy and well made. Performance is fab, and the battery life is phanominal, even when I first got the laptop out of the box i was running it on battery whilst installing, Norton security, microsoft office, scanning for viruses everything that usaully sucks the power out of a battery but it still lasted 5 hours!!! This is a great netbook and I highly reccommend it to anyone.
-
The cooling fan can get a little bit annoying as although its not loud, when I am working late at night and there are no other sounds, the fan comes on for a few seconds then goes off, comes on for a few seconds then goes off, and it can get annoying eventually but nothing to worry about as i'd rather it doing that than overheating! Apart from that no bad points at all.

My 9/10 for everything speaks for itself. Nothing ever gets a 10 with me, because nothing is ever perfect. But this little beast is very close! It does everything my previous £1,000 laptop did, only showing itself a little slower on very onerous tasks such as video re-encoding. It does this fine too, just a little slower.Other tasks, there is no noticeable difference at all. Good keyboard, good screen, decent size hard drive - it's a little gem. If you can manage with a 10" screen, then I would recommend this product, without reservation. Just check prices very carefully and don't pay more than necessary.
-
1. The touch pad is small, which is OK and to be expected in a tiny PC. But it is made effectively smaller still by the 'extra' functions assigned to its edges. These can be turned off, but I'm not sure if the whole area of the pad then becomes released for normal movements. Also, it's almost impossible to distinguish by touch between the pad and surrounding case, as they have identical textures. The tiniest lip or indentation would fix this absolutely.
2. Grey symbols printed on dark blue case are illegible in anything but good light - again easily fixable by manufacturer.

Excellent netbook, by far the best on the market at the moment (Jan 2009). Does exactly what i want - a second really portable computer to read my emails anywhere in my house but i can also use it as a
work tool as a programmer/debugger PC, especially when not much desk space for a conventional lap-top.

None really, but you really need to invest in a decent netbook bag because the slip case supplied is a joke - its only good for making sure all the broken bits of your netbook are keep together if you are unlucky enough to drop it!

Excellent small laptop. We have been using it off mains power for hours and never had to panic about plugging it into the mains. Wireless set up was easy and shared our Music and pics over the network easily also. Web cam go, but couldbe sharper quality. Slightly higher resolution would also be good to see full size web pages.
All in all a great machine and exactly what I was looking for. My 9 year old daughter loves it and can use use everything. She cannot however understand why she cannot get the internet in the car and at her Grans, but then again, neither can my wife.

Overall a light, compact, working tool that feels like it will withstand a lot of punishment. I've started leaving my bulky laptop at home.

I use for work and personal usage, I can pull over at the local services, grab a coffee and check up on my Ebay deals whilst connected to the numerous free wi-fi spots littered across the country.

The only fault I could mention if I was really pushed is the shiny lid (I chose the blue colour which I personally thought was a bit different to the usual black or white) which is very easy to mark with fingerprints. This is only being very 'picky' as I couldn't think of any other faults!

When I was researching the Netbooks on the market, I found they tended to fall into two groups;
1)Nice keyboard. Shame about the screen.
2) Nice screen, shame about the keyboard.
I eventually realised that if I was going to live with the device for any period of time, I had better fork out the little bit extra for the Samsung NC10.
For the size of netbook, the keyboard is superb. Unlike many of it's rivals, the NC10's 'RETURN' key is an inversed "L". This makes typing much easier. It was one of the main reasons for buying this unit.
The screen is also excellent. The brightness is lovely & punchy. The screen surface is slightly matt to reduce reflection. If you like your battery life long, let the supplied power-save programme controll the screen. It will run at full brightness when on mains power. But when on battery, it will dim the screen slightly and then dim it further after a period of non use. As a result, the already high powered battery gives excellent performance.
The lid on the blue model has a lovely gloss finnish. Considdering it has a traditional hard drive, the NC10 is surprisingly quiet. The ram can be upgraded via a small access panel and the power pack is a nice size too.
I have used it for about an hour every day and I can safely say I made the right decision.
-
The battery (although a nice shape) adds weight. But you cannot change the laws of physics! A better battery is a heavier battery. My previous laptop was a desk-top emulating beast. So the NC10 does not really offend.
Samsung have used a relatively proprietry power socket. This limits your choice of car chargers ect... At least on the high street anyway.
It's lovely that Samsung has supplied a free case, but a little bit of padding, on the bottom at least would have made it perfect.

Battery life excellent - will run for over 7 hours on full charge with light use, eg. surfing or word-processing.
Screen is clear, evenly lit, bright and glare resistant.
Sound through headphones is excellent.
Keyboard is almost full size, and very nice to type on. My typing on this keyboard is actually slightly faster and more accurate than on a full-sized keyboard. Keys are sensibly positioned eg. 'CTRL' is bottom left, 'Enter' key is good size and right-shift is easily found; much better than the keyboards on any other netbooks I looked at.
Can be left on standby by closing lid and returned to the following day with no apparent loss of battery life - an excellent machine.
SD / SD HC card slot useful for data backups.
Wireless connection quick to connect from boot-up and has good range.
There are numerous reviews of the NC10 on the web, mostly very positive; I haven't been disappointed.
-
Balance is slightly off - tends to tip backwards unless you support it correctly to compensate. Having used for a couple of weeks now though I soon adjusted to this and no longer find it a problem.
Speakers are a bit weedy, but good enough for general use. If I want to listen to music then I generally use headphones anyway.
No CD / DVD drive, but if you have another PC on your wireless network you can share the drives on that machine with the NC10 for data and applications.

Small mousepad, easily gotten used to though. When in battery-max mode and running off the battery, system goes into standby for 5 minutes then wakes up and goes into hibernation, personally I find it a little annoying as there is no way of changing this.

Not really a big issue, but the keyboard needs a little getting used to.
Also the partioning of the disk could be made more 'in your face' rather then being hidden

Although I use the mousepad on my laptop without problem I cannot get on with the one on the Samsung netbook so use an external mouse. Overall I am very pleased with the netbook.

Keyboard is ideal for people who can touch type. Love the choice of colours - blue is my favourite! It is still small and light enough to carry around with out any problems. It is faster in opening programmes and connecting to wireless than my Desktop PC. Battery life is amazing and therefore, ideal for longer meetings and travelling.

Well thought out intuitive design apart from maybe the mouse pad, but it's an extremely minor gripe and may not bother many people. Fast processor and 1gig ram makes most jobs and multi tasking a pleasure. It's one inch bigger than the rest of the pack and that one inch makes all the difference. Weight is pretty good and easy to lug around which was the intention. Design is really good and it looks fantastic in white, if yo like that kind of thing. Great points: Comes loaded with Win XP and has a built in 160gig HD and very good connectivity.
-
Not many really, shame it doesn;t have a built in cd but then that would affect the size. Mouse pad is slightly over sensitive but that is personal preference i guess.

Excellent battery life - I am getting approx 4 hours video usage with it. Nice screen. Atom processor is up to the job too - I have installed Office 2007 Professional, Visual Studio 2008 and SQL Server 2008 (all full additions) and they work fine (they are for development purposes, not for full server use).

Brilliant battery life and portability - though some other in the market are now competing for size. Good quality finish and excellent keyboard.

In the current climate a more powerful processor would be a big bonus as would an increase in the 1GB of RAM. The screen resolution is just below that needed for normal operating of some programmes eg Google Earth but for most programmes it is satisfactory.

-
1gb ram, first thing I did was upgrade it to 2gb. Poor screen resolution, two buttons on the keyboard were blue not black like the rest, battery is approx 5hrs not the 7.5 as stated, keypad to small so we bought a wireless mouse, but got a bluetooth mouse as is has built in bluetooth meant no dongle sticking out the side. Although there's many bad points it's competition has a lot more bad points so it's the best available albeit 30% more than the rest.

The touchpad is small and a little hard to find under your thumb/fingers initially but you get used to it. You'll also need to play around with the pad's settings to get the sensitivity and scrolling performance right.

Good screen. keyboard is a pleasure to work with. Plenty of storage with the 160Gb drive, and takes 16Gb and greater capacity SD cards for even more options.Memory upgrade is easy to do via a small hatch in the underside. Bluetooth links perfectly to my gps receiver, so using the netbook as a sat nav can't be easier. The long battery life just the icing on the cake. As long as people bear in mind this is a netbook, not a replacement for a laptop or desktop then they shouldn't have any complaints.

Could come with a better storage sleeve. The pocket provided doesn't give any knock prevention, but is good for keeping the dust out. Thats how minor its faults are.

Small and light unit, useable keyboard, built in Bluetooth, large HDD, very clear and evenl-lit screen, necessary backup software supplied in box. A very nice product.
-
Occasionally pauses without any visual indcation why - this is usually due to a network connection, large file transfer or just because the CPU load is too much - it can do ad-hoc graphics work, but don't try it regularly or if you need to do it quickly - it's just not the machine for it. Any office/presentation/word proc. type stuff and it flies, likewise surfing/emails etc are fine.
Minor gripe, but the right shift key, whilst a reasonable size has been compromised by Smasung moving the backslash key '\' next to it. Had they left this key on the left, where it normally sits next to the left-hand shift key, the right hand shift key could have been almost full-width - and pretty much perfectly sized for it. A second (right hand) function key has not been supplied either.
Slip case is rubbish. It is just fabric and needs neoprene as a minimum and the top flap is not able to be secured, it just wafts about. An aftermarket (neoprene/zipped) slipcase is a necessity though as all laptop bags are too big and will have this little PC rattling around inside - with a slipcase, any (i.e. more covert) bag can be used.
