+ The sound and picture quality is unreal. Sounds fantastic at high volume not recommended if you have close neighbours.

- The unit it self is quite large! ie length so it is hard to find a cabinet to house it in that will also allow sufficient air flow around it to keep cool.
The cooling fan stopped working on unit then again on replacement unit but has now been repair and is working fine.

+ Sound with blue ray is excellent. Upscaling of standard DVD's is also very good. The sub-woofer really does make you feel the base but also adds a fullness to the overall sound quality.

- The vast range of settings and options can be a minefield to set-up but it is worth playing around with them. The sub-woofer is huge and could be a problem if you have a smaller room. My wife also says the high gloss finish is a pain in the **** to clean!!!. The blue-ray player is a little bit dated in design.

+ 7.1 Surround amplifier built in eliminates the need for extra units.
Both sound and picture quality are excellent in Blu-ray and via the upscaling.
Due to excellent quality of upscaling there is no need to replace standard DVD's.
The system is easy to install and understand.

- 7.1 speakers require a reasonably large room for effectivity, speaker size and quantity.
Floor standing speakers have no base adjustment to cater for uneven floors, to ensure vertical speaker columns the base requires something to be placed under one side reducing the stability of the speaker.
The sub-woofer has no remote control facility (the volume control and power button are on the rear of the unit).

+ Super-clear picture

- 1. Display Unit on Blu-ray is obscured if looking from a distance
2. Blu ray FM radio can be better served by making it a DAB radio.

+ Easy to operate and a really good sound and effect when watching your movies. Picture quality is great. Very loud should you want to turn the volume up.

- You only receive a short cable for the sub, so although you can place this anywhere in your room unless you want it at the side of your tv you will have to purchase a longer cable. All other cables for speakers are more than adequate. That is the only negative thing I can say about the product, another great Samsung product.

Expert reviews for Samsung HT-BD2R

TechRadar expert review

Unboxing Samsung's HT-BD2 is much like making love to an Eskimo; there's an awful lot of unwrapping to be done before you get to the tasty bits. It's 7.1, you see, equating to eight speakers in total, with one being a meaty subwoofer. Plus, the main unit is a combination Blu-ray player and receiver. And its massive! You'll certainly need to reserve some considerable real estate under your TV, round the back of your sofa and, er, everywhere else really.Seriously stylish speakersBut that's not to say the deck's a beast without a dash of beauty. Footprint aside, Samsung has exhibited its …
