Andy, Coventry

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Extensive firmware options, meaning it's running a full LAMP web server and streaming / transcoding music and video around my house
Very stable and reliable
Extremely quiet (with Western Digital Red HDDs installed)
Bad points:
CPU and memory are a little underpowered for heavy loads. Fine for most SOHO uses though

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
I have used 2 x TS-210's for a number of years and decided to upgrade to a larger and hopefully faster unit.

Typical QNAP quality; well build and well... just works well - eventually... see below!

Minor plus is the LEDs are less "bright" than the TS-210's so less of a flickering Christmas tree in the corner - which is nice - however, it does make seeing if it has shut down before powering off a job that requires getting on your hands and knees!
Bad points:
The initial set up was a major ** censored **!!!

I re-used two of the TS-210 1TB drives which turned out to be a BAD mistake. I had to reboot over 20 times before the Initial Setup programme got past "Connecting to server" stage.

In desperation, I removed all 4 1TB drives and formated them to NTFS on a Windows machine before the unit decided to play ball.

After that it was plain sailing.

There was one oddity though. It took 1 hour to format up the 4 x 1TB drives into the RAID5 configuration I selected (okay, that IS a lot of disc) but then took 48 hours to synchronize the drives!
What was it synchronizing? The drives were empty and why did it take so long?

As this is my first QNAP RAID5 experience, not sure if this is normal or not.

However, once settled down, it rocks! Not sure if it is actually that much faster.

Good points:
Lots of features, quiet operation, sturdy bays for the drives, runs cool, very easy to set up and good support from qnap with regular firmware updates.
Bad points:
Had some bugs with its time machine support - although this appears to have been resolved in the latest firmware update.

Ian, Dumfries

Score 9.0/10
Good points:
Good quality looking product. Seems to perform well. Although a novice in this field I chose this NAS over others because of other reviews which highlighted it's versatillity.
Bad points:
Perhaps due my lack of knowledge I have found the setup beyond the quick start process to be a little confusing. When trying to use the the forum to establish where i was going wrong I found it rather difficult. I still have a lot to learn in this field but the support information that came with the NAS could be improved. Please cater for the 'newbies' as well as the 'geeks' please!
