+ Will read from or write to many different formats. Stores music, still images and video. Reads from a USB-connected card reader or from a data DVD to view/store your digital camera pictures. Can also store your music from a PC or CDs to make a personal "Jukebox" on the hard disk. Easy to edit out commercials if you want to save a TV movie onto DVD. Hard to get to grips with all of the available features, but it's well worth the effort. Recorded quality, even at LP setting (recording over 4 hours on a DVD) is almost impossible to differentiate from live broadcast - excellent!

- The remote control is sometimes slow (a software problem?), making it difficult to select programmes from the Electronic Programme Guide quickly, because of storage of several directional clicks, which suddenly "play back" to over-run the desired position. With familiarity this is not a big problem. This recorder also comes with a HUGE manual, with operating details badly explained in some sections, so it takes quite a while (and trial and error) to get familiar with all of it, but it eventually repays the effort.

Expert reviews for Pioneer DVR-LX60D

TechRadar expert review

It may be expensive, but Pioneer has gone a long way to justify the price hike. From the lustre of the black finish to the rigid build-quality, this looks and feels like a prestige product. It matches the best around spec-for-spec and adds in a CI slot and USB interface. It also has pretensions to be a multimedia hub for your living room, but more about that anon. The LX60D is a 250GB HDD/multiformat DVD recorder, compatible with both dual- and double-layer discs and comes with analogue and digital TV tuners. On top of this comes a host of features that enhance performance and…
