+ very good all round machine,playback quality is the best i have ever seen from dvd, in my opion pioneer have always made the best dvd players/recorders by far very recommended indeed

- no hdmi but just use the component video out instead, so no bad points to really mention

+ Great recorder for the money - does everything you could ask for. Has great EPG and search facility so, for example, you can search for all films on a particular day. Also recommends programmes based on a profile set up by you. Record and watch at same time.

- Only one tuner so can only record one program at once and you can't watch another digital channel through it at same time. No problem though if you have a freeview box or TV too. No automatic adding of time to scheduled recordings, eg. ten mins on each end, so has to be done manually. Only a 30 second job but a bit annoying.

+ Fairly easy to use, never crashed.

- Different capability between digital and analogue tv. Slow start up. Loud hum. No direct access to HD.

+ Great features for the price.

Allows you to record and watch at the same time on the digital channels (similar to pause live TV feature for the analogue channels)

- Got to be the ugliest remote control I have ever seen.
The hard disk can be a little noisy.
Always seems to be updating the EPG.

+ I like the fact that you can choose a menu design when you finalize your DVDs.

+ Absolutely brilliant piece of kit. Provides freeview, online program guide that let's you record a program with one button - and it labels the recording automatically too. The chase-play feature is great to effectively pause a TV programme when the phone rings and resume later. You can even watch a recording while recording another.

- It would be nice if the recording from the programme menu would auto-start it a minute earlier than the schedule to make sure you don't miss the beginning.

+ Very Stylish, and fairly user friendly. The recording Quality is Very good, and the On Screen Instructions are Easy to follow.

- The Inbuilt schedule program, updates twice a day, and the machine comes out of standby for 2 hours each time, so you can hear the fan (it's not excessively noisy) running all this time.

+ After a VCR the 80gb hard drive is wonderful. A bit difficult for me, a grandad, to set up but I have managed it. I can record TV programmes, play DVDs and copy to DVD. I have not tried any of the many other facilities.
