Score 4.0/10+ NIce idea, good form factor, would be perfect if it wasn't for the software flaw
- Stops recording whenever there is a drop in the video input (which is typical of the sources that you may be atempting to transfer, like old video tapes), so ultimately useless. Anyone attempting to record 1/2 hour of creaky old video ends up with many small segments AND you have to note when it stops recording to press the record button again (by which time you've missed 5-10 seconds of video). Hopeless.

Score 8.0/10+ Nothing "does what it says on the tin"
- A point to note is that the media you record to have to be formatted in FAT32 fine for memory cards, but not for USB hard drives these are probably formatted in NTFS or exFAT which the video unit cannot recognised. A free download of Swissknife from CompuApps will fix that.

Expert reviews for PINNACLE VIDEO TRANSFER
TechRadar expert review
Pinnacle Video Transfer makes adding video to your iPod easy. Instead of encoding video on your Mac and dropping it into iTunes before syncing, the Pinnacle system means you just plug one end into your video source and the other straight into your iPod via USB and hit record. It then encodes the video stream straight to your iPod using the iTunes-friendly H.264 video codec.Awkward compatibility In theory it should save you a lot of messing about. You just have to choose one of three quality settings by pressing the Mode button, and then press the Rec button to start and stop recording.…

Pinnacle Video Transfer lets you copy a video source to any USB 2.0 mass storage device, without the need for a PC. But that's all it does.
