+ Compact, attractive, decent sound quality, station can be positioned for preference, satisfactory CD rip speed (but not fast, so make a cup of tea or something while you're waiting), easy playback, easy auto-tune of radio presets, capable of supporting other devices (in my case, a turntable, so I am able to play vinyl through the WACS speakers - v. important) Not yet tried internet interaction, so can't comment.

- Struggled to get Centre and Station talking to each other initially (nearly gave up) despite following correct procedure, struggled to give artist's name to unrecognised CDs using alphanumeric buttons on remote (though naming album was fine) Biggest drawback is that you cannot transfer music from Centre harddrive to an I-Pod (though you can play music from an I-Pod through the system, and can transfer to other devices, including MP3 player). Also, while harddrive can store a huge number of CDs there is only 3 hours of space available for downloads from other sources (vinyl, radio). So you can build a CD library on the harddrive, but not a library of your vinyl collection (if, like me, you are ancient enough to have one!).

+ Easy to set up and transfer files from the pc. Great sound even connected through the TV. Would recommend

- Not found a way to fast forward or skip songs music when broadcasting the music. Sometimes loses the connection on broadcast even though the station is in the room next to the centre with only a stud wall separting them. Sometimes the centre and station are not totally in sync when broadcasting. The station's are way too expensive.

Expert reviews for Philips Streamium WACS-7500

Pocket Lint expert review

When the first Steamium launched, we have to admit we weren't impressed, a poor overly plastic design complemented with average sound meant for us, it was £600 not well spent. So can the follow-up, the WACS7500 make amends? We get listening to find out.To say that the Streamium WACS7500 is a completely new model wouldn't be far off...

PC Advisor expert review - by Andrew Harrison

Based on the previous WACS7000 but with revisions to its built-in speakers, the Philips WACS7500 is a hard-disk-based music centre, able to stream music from its internal hard drive to additional, slightly smaller, 'Stations'.
