+ Excellent quality all round. We don't have HD but I can imagine the picture quality would be second to none as the digital picture we receive is excellent.
I had a Toshiba crt set before this and thought the picture quality would never be bettered particularly on a lcd set. I was pleasantly surprised when I bought this set.

- None whats so ever.

+ Really great TV and after doing lots of research glad I went for this one. Picture is really good for most things and sound is better than I expected. Haven't got a full HD source yet so am looking forward to seeing it with that. At the moment just have standard Freeview and it looks good.

- When watching fast moving sports like football you do get a bit of blurring. Not really a problem though and might be ok from a better source. I have freeview and not the best signal strength as well.

+ Easy to use. Remote clearly laid out. Picture crystal sharp on HD programming. Unit is stylish looking with great sleek finish.

- No significant issues. Sound could be more powerful but separate Hi Fi system recommended fro all flat screen TVs anyway.

+ Excellent freeview picture and is easily tuned to individual tastes.Very good for the average size lounge. I am waiting to see 1080 options when connected to Playstation 3 although the demos I have seen again are very good.
Good value for money.

- I would prefer a stand which would give more rotation for viewing .

+ The looks: fantastic - reasonably slim border - looks great in any lounge. Sound is awesome - very clear and natural which can also be said for the picture. Almost up there with their plasma range. A great trait of Panasonic pictures in general unlike some other brands which produce pretty but overly saturated, bright colours - good for animations/xbox games but will grow tiresome for a film and general viewing.
Menus very easy to use - on startup you press a button and digital channels are set up. Plug my xbox in - switch to hdmi - done.

- If i had to really really nit-pick, the black bezel surround reflects a little too much light which is not what you want when you buy an LCD.

+ Picture is fantastic being bright, crisp and sharp, no ghosting or other motion issues. The looks and finish of the LCD is fantastic, really pleased with it.
Don't have any HighDef devices but normal picture via scart and component video is brillant.
Well worth getting the 100Hz.

- Freeview Tuner does't give the best picture, not sure whether that is the tuner or my aerial that is at fault, however the aerial is digital approved and I even have a booster connected, so I do think the tuner that is at fault. I've got sky+ so it is not that big an issue for me.

+ Picture quality is good considering only being used with a standard definition signal. I have seen many wide screen TVs with poor picture quality over the years at friends houses (I didn't tell them though). I am pleased to say my new TV is much better than all the others I've seen.

- Sound falls well short of hi fi quality though its probaly better than most other TVs. I should not have to a buy a separate sound system in order to get good sound. It should be built into the TV.
Picture quality is not so good for faces under studio lighting with people wearing make up for TV. Faces under these conditions can look like cyber men from Doctor Who. Adjusting the settings helps and is now acceptable to me though still not great.

+ Excellent picture, even without HD source. The screen's potential can be seen by inserting an SD card and viewing digital pictures at full resolution. I have no doubt that it will excellent with a full HD source.

- The freeview signal is highly processed to remove noise and the result is that that a faces end up looking like Joan Rivers (stretched smooth and artificial!)

Expert reviews for Panasonic TX37LZD85

TechRadar expert review

Until the second wave of manufacturers is announced early next year, Panasonic stands alone in making TVs with Freesat reception built-in (including HD). The Panasonic TX-37LZD81 is one such set. Last summer saw the appearance of the PZ81 series, all boasting excellent AV performance to match their TV receiving prowess. Now the company has followed up with two mid-range LCDs in modest 32in and 37in screen sizes and, like the plasmas, they also sport Freeview and analogue tuners. Picture processingThe Panasonic TX-37LZD81 has a pretty wide footprint, with a stand design identical to tha…

TV Buyers Guide

Manufacturer's Description

With 50Hz video signal input, Motion Picture Pro 2 creates 100 frames/1 sec from 50 frames/1 sec. This increases the frame count to allow natural frame-to-frame transitions, which results in smooth motion images with high resolution. With Motion Picture Pro 2, the VIERA LCD also detects areas with motion and activates backlight blinking for those areas only, greatly enhancing resolution. Smooth reproduction of movie images a cinematic effect is achieved to preserve the quality of images that are recorded onto movie film at 24 frames per second.

Images are beautiful even when viewers are sitting at an angle to the TV. The IPS Alpha panel has a wide viewing angle, so the images are crisp and clear even when viewed from an angle. The same high-quality images can be enjoyed from any place in the living room.

This kind of expressive power will thrill science-fiction fans even dark scenes are elaborately detailed. Improved panel contrast combines with the I.S.C.(Intelligent Scene Controller) to achieve a high, 10,000:1* contrast ratio. *Dynamic mode only

The term “x.v.Colour” was proposed as a designation for products compatible with xvYCC, which is an international standard that allows enhanced colour reproduction with a wider colour gamut than before. The crumpling of the fabric is clearly seen and the 3D effect is effectively expressed. The unique texture of the fleece-type material is much clearer to see. *x.v.Colour is a registered trademark.

In addition to brilliant picture quality, VIERA models offer the easy operation made possible by VIERA Link and the SD card slot. VIERA Link lets you operate other connected Panasonic AV components using only the VIERA TV’s remote control unit. The majority of the VIERA line-up is equipped with a slot for large-capacity SDHC cards. You can view a slideshow of your photos on VIERA’s big beautiful screen just by simply remove the SD memory card from your digital still camera, and slip it in to the slot.
