+ Stunning picture quality with very natural colour. HD is fabulous, its like looking out of your window so pure is the picture. Remote control is easy to use with good clear markings on the buttons. Good looking TV although I would have preferred silver surrounds as this blends into the room easier.

- There are no bad points but a touch more "presence" in the sound and could we have a choice of colour i.e. Black or Silver.

+ Excellent image quality of this set. The advertised "infinite blacks" may not be realistically possible but I've not seen many other televisions come this close. Plug in a blu-ray player and this television comes to life and produces outstanding image that pops vibrant and luscious colour. Excellent motion that leaves LCD/LED TV's in the starting blocks. Brilliant user friendly remote with large buttons. Standard definition images are handled very well producing a better viewing experience than many other large sized TV's handicapped by poor image sources. Freesat and Freeview tuners are both quick and provide a decent image quality. Freesat HD channels allow the tv to stretch it's legs producing a very strong image quality.

- This TV is not cheap with many other 42" 1080p models available for less however none that meet the spec of the G10. 3rd HDMI input is on the side which may annoy some. Higher energy consumption than LCD's

+ Looks fab, easy to set up. Great picture quality & sound quality. I had been told we may not really notice the difference between normal & HD but the difference is clear HD is perfect shame all programmes are not transmitted in HD.

- Not sure this would be best choice for viewing in brightly lit rooms.

+ As a bit of a technochump, I found this very easy to install. The picture quality is as good as I've sen anywhere. Sounds pretty good too, although I haven't really got anything to compare with here. Still makes me feel good when I walk into the lounge! Football and wildlife on HD is very impressive.

- Not really a bad point about the telly, but the viewing experience. The picture quality is so good, it shows up every imperfection in the signal, so if you've been watching Freesat HD, then switch to DVB you have to get used to the deterioration.

+ Very good picture through standard sky set up. Freesat is easy to set up yourself but only has one HD channel(BBC HD). Awesome for gaming and watching films.

- The sound only has 2 channels to choose from - music or speech - could have had pre-sets for cinema. some times when watching films the music seems a lot louder than the talking.

+ The image is far superior to the Panasonic LCD I replaced. The colours and sharpness are far superior.

- Slight problem with writing scrolling across the bottom of the screen on certain channels, whereby the words don't appear as sharp as they should.

+ My Panasonic television far exceeded my expectations in every aspect but in particular the dynamic contrast ratio of 40000:1 gives a picture of outstanding quality that I consider is equal to those obtained on HD through my satellite dish.

Expert reviews for Panasonic TX-P42G10

TechRadar expert review

The Panasonic TX-P42G10 uses plasma panel rather than the more common LCD technology. But that's not it's only unique selling point, for it is also our only contender with a built-in Freesat HD tuner. It's also nice to see that the plasma screen is one of Panasonic's NeoPDP models, with their much-enhanced brightness and pared down running costs. More good news finds the panel sporting a full HD resolution, which is a big deal in the plasma world, where precious few 42in screens manage better than HD Ready resolutions. To our knowledge, Panasonic remains the only maker of full HD 42in …

Panasonic\'s 42in Viera TX-P42G10B is great value for a full HD plasma TV. There are plenty of cheaper plasma TVs out there, but they usually have just a 1,024x768 resolution. Compared with most LCD-based HD TVs, plasma screens have much better contrast, which means blacks are truly black and not just dark grey. The Viera\'s design is a little plain, but it\'s what you see when you switch it on that counts, and here it doesn\'t disappoint. For a start, it has a built-in Freesat tuner, which means you can enjoy free HD programming from the BBC and ITV. There isn\'t a huge amount of conte…

TV Buyers Guide

Manufacturer's Description

Full-HD NeoPDP Models with freesat built-in, Superb Moving Picture Quality and Advanced Networking Capabilities “freesat” is a digital satellite service that offers free HD (High-definition) TV programmes. With the G10 series, you can enjoy sharp pictures, vivid colours, multi-channel sound, and various services with the interactive contents. 600-Hz technology lets you view superb full-HD motion and still images with 1,080 lines of resolution. For even greater clarity with motion images, Panasonic uses its own unique image-analysis technology. This technology converts the motion in each scene into data, then optimises the sub-field to display fast-action scenes in full-HD resolution. And each frame is displayed for a shorter length of time than in previous systems, to reduce aftereffects. VIERA incorporate an improved panel production process and the new Real Black Drive system. A pre-discharge control system, the Real Black Drive system combines with NeoPDP technology to achieve next-generation black reproduction. When you’re watching movies, VIERA renders images just the way the director intended, even in scenes where it’s difficult to achieve a proper balance of light and dark. VIERA Link allows interconnected operation of various AV devices using only the VIERA remote control, by simply connecting the devices to each other by an HDMI cable. VIERA Link performance has been further enhanced with LUMIX digital camera connection. By connecting a new LUMIX camera that has an HDMI output terminal to VIERA, you can use the VIERA remote to control the playback of images stored on the camera. It’s easy to view full-HD images with the SD Memory Card slot. Watch and show your photos and motion images right after you take them. Simply insert an SD Memory Card into VIERA to display photos and full-HD videos on the large screen. You can also choose from among 3 types of background music and 4 display effects. V-Audio Surround gives depth-sound-image effect by early-reflection data based on actual room measurement, that is generated from digital signal processor.
