+ Great looking TV, very easy to set up and tune in (it did it itself!). Picture quality crystal clear, can't wait to see the HD picture quality.

- The sound quality is slightly strange but this may be due to the sound quality on digital tv signals as opposed to the analogue service.
It would help if you could adjust the actual red/blue/green etc colours individually to really create a bespoke tv picture rather than just having the pre-programmed choices.
The remote control is also a bit 'plastic'y' and doesn't really match the quality of the tv.
None of this though should detract from what is a great tv though!

+ Really nice to look at and it weighs so much less than my old brick of a TV. It was incredibly easy to set up and tune in, and it lets you when new channels become available. There is a small delay when changing channels but it really isn't a problem and I reckon you'd have to be a pretty impatient person to let it affect you. I've also bought the Panasonic DMREX78EBX HDD DVD recorder and the 2 items compliment each other well and you can just use one remote control if you wish. All in all this is a great TV, I haven't had any problems yet and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

- If you plan to watch this TV from a position below the screen, the picture fades badly and the stand does not swivel down

+ Very nice design, links well with other panasonic products and makes the whole viewing experience easy and very enjoyable. Lovely picture and good sound considering the compromised enclosures used on these relatively shallow depth TV designs. Ideal if you want a TV that doesn't have the bulk of a 32" but has enough quality and screen size to capture your attention.

- No real bad points. Minor niggle is the placement of the buttons on the right side of the TV...if you have a cantalever wall bracket as I do and move the screen around quite a bit, your fingers tend to find these buttons and change channels etc...like I say its a minor gripe. Also the remote is very similar to other panasonic remotes in use, but has a few button function changes which drive you mad when swapping remotes...but hey, if that's the worst I can come up with, get out and buy one!

+ Quality good all round

- I am easy with technology, so I find it easy to use the remote. My old Mum keeps hitting the wrong buttons and getting into trouble. Ideally all but the simple operations need something like an option to lock out or to require 2-button depressions.
The manual lacks explanation in several places - for example with 'Normal' and 'Cinema' picture settings - it's not clear to me whether the TV is doing anything for me or whether it's all down to my settings.
The sliding scale settings (like brightness, contrast etc) need to have numbers associated with them so they can be recorded/experimented with easily.

Score 9.0/10

+ I like the fact that although it is 7" bigger than my previous (20 year old) TV, it has not taken over my room. It is just the right size and the picture is so good. Watching wild life programmes has been amazing because of the clarity. I am also enjoying being able to watch things on BBC 3, ITV 3 & More 4 etc. I am very very pleased with my purchase.

- I have not been able to work out how to watch videos in colour - they all come out black & white! It's probably me doing something wrong, but they are not black & white videos so they should definitely be in colour!

Expert reviews for Panasonic TX-26LXD80

TechRadar expert review

Having had its price cut from ¬£490 all the way down to ¬£375, the TX-26LXD80 might be a serious bargain. Not that the TV's design supports this notion: its fairly bland sculpting and simple black colour scheme do nothing to help the TV stand out from the crowd. Far more pleasing is the TV's connectivity, for as well as the three HDMIs and a D-Sub PC port, the set sports an SD card input for viewing digital photos and that's rare at this price. In typical Panasonic style, the 26LXD80 is also exceptionally easy to use, with a superbly simple remote control and clear, concise onscreen me…

Pocket Lint expert review

Let’s get this straight – the 26-inch TV market is not where it’s at. The UK’s thirst for ever-bigger TV screens means that there is little development at this tiny size. Panasonic’s TX-26LXD80 is a typical example at this size, but it’s also one of the most expensive 26-inchers around. Its depth could be a problem: while bigger TVs are slimming down below the 50mm size, the TX-26LXD80’s girth is more than twice that...

  5. Horizontal Arch Design
    description
Blacks are deepened by expanding the backlight tuning area. Improvements in panel contrast achieve a high contrast ratio of 8,000:1. *Dynamic mode only

VIERA Link allows interlinked operation of various AV devices using only the VIERA remote control, by simply connecting the devices to each other by an HDMI cable. What’s more, the HD Photo Viewer provides a new photo viewing experience. Simply insert an SD Memory Card to display photos on the large screen. Photos are much more fun when you can view them on a large-screen HDTV with family and friends in high definition.

Equipped with V-Audio, Panasonic‘s unique sound technology, VIERA televisions deliver crystal-clear sound with superior bass performance.

The images that are recorded onto movie film at 24 frames per second (fps) are reproduced at two times that speed by 24p Playback. This achieves film-like reproduction than with the 2:3 processing method.

Thin, light and wide. Based on these three key words, this design combines functional beauty with formative art to harmonise with virtually any interior space. The arched trim that flows smoothly from the centre to both ends creates a feeling of visual expansiveness.
