David, Shifnal, Shropshire Just point and shoot

Score 5.0/10
Good points:
Small, Good enough zoom, Picture quality not bad. Works well out of water.
Bad points:
Stopped working 3rd day in the water. All maitenance instructions followed correctly but camera would not operate. First zoom stopped, then camera wouldn't switch off, then eventually wouldn't swtich on. Holiday of a lifetime (snorkelling with humpback whales in Tonga) but no photo record after 2nd day. On arrival home camera had to be returned to Curry's to be 'fixed'. Now have it back but don't know when or if I'll ever use it again.

Camcorders Buying Guide

Manufacturer's Description

Take the HX-WA10 underwater as deep as 3 meters for up to 60 minutes, and get some great photos or videos in a pool or the ocean. Swim along with tropical fish, capture shots of a beautiful coral reef, or get action footage of a friend snorkeling. Waterproofing also means you can shoot in the rain or snow with no worries. * IEC60529 IPX8 * This does not guarantee no destruction, no malfunction, or waterproofing in all conditions.
Even with its light weight and slim design, the HX-WA10 renders images in breathtaking, Full-HD (1920 × 1080) beauty. BSI (Backside Illumination) sensor technology has improved the sensitivity of the CMOS sensor, making it possible to shoot images with high-resolution Full-HD quality even in dimly lit areas. * “Full-HD video with 1920 × 1080 pixels” in Panasonic Dual Camera refers to video recordings with 1920 pixels in the horizontal direction and 1080 pixels in the vertical direction.
The HX-WA10 shoots 16-megapixel high-resolution still pictures. Depending on the situation, you can flexibly shoot either high-quality photos or videos by using only the thumb to press the desired button, without having to change modes.. You can also capture 2-megapixel still images while recording a video by simply pressing the Still button.* * Varies depending on the Video mode used for shooting.
In addition to an optical 5x zoom, the New High-Quality Image Engine of the HX-WA10 lets you shoot videos with a maximum 12x Advanced Zoom with no image quality degradation.* You get a flexible shooting range, from wide-angle to dynamic zooming. * Only for video recording at 30p. When shooting photos, the maximum zoom is 5×.
With both phtos and videos, iA does the bothersome settings for you and makes it easy to capture beautiful images. Intelligent Scene Selector analyzes shooting situation and automatically switches the camera to the suitable scene mode. Face Detection automatically senses the ambient lighting and adjusts the exposure accordingly, so faces are bright and easy to see, and E.I.S. (Electrical Image Stabilizer) helps to correct hand-shake blurring. * The functions included in iA may not be applied when conditions do not call for them.
