- no disk included,so unsure what sort to buy

+ Easy to set up and very logical to use. Few cmpetitors have such a range of functionality. Highly recommended.

- There are more attractive looking unis available but it is pretty inoffensive.

+ Being both Freeview and a DVD/Video recorder, recording is easy. The DVD recording section includes the Programme Name and date in the Play menu.

- The unit is rather deep and has the connectors in the centre. This makes locating the unit in a stand with a rear centre post a bit of a pain. It does not sit back far enough.

+ This machine does everything that it claims to do, I am delighted with it and have already reccomended it to a friend who has since bought the same model. I notice that it has come down in price since I bought mine which makes it even more apealing. I use it all the time to record digital channels onto video and DVD's and also a DVD ram disk. I have also transferred 52 of my favourite videos on to DVD's using this machine. I think this machine is a must for the future (when we will switch over to digital).

- I have not come across any bad points so far.

+ Uses all formats including DVD-RAM which is the best by far. Very easy to transfer video tapes to DVD. Best thing i've ever bought.

- Time taken to initially read a disc too long. Otherwise nothing.

- No warning when selecting recording time exceeds space available on disc. Beginning or end of programmes sometimes missed when set up with guide, particularly on BBC2

- No mute button. Only one recording head. When recording, you can't watch another Digital Station. Difficult to obtain and retain the VHS recorder - it changes back to DVD or SD. Very poorly illuminated screen on front of Recorder. Poor scrolling through the Programme Guide.

+ Good quality picture etc. Better reception of freeview channels than on previous boxtop.

- Biggest disappointment is that you can't watch another freeview channel whilst you are recording one which isn't helpful if you are recording something because there are 2 things on that you want to see!!
New DVDs take a long time to initialise which means that you can't record something in a hurry.

+ Works well with all disc formats. Very good connectivity with all the inputs you could want. Very good for copying vhs tapes to dvd with little apparent degradation. Good picture with Freeview tuner. Manufacturing quality seems very good.

- There is quite a lot of technology in one box to learn about and you have to read the manual. I have had some problems getting it to work independently of the tv and sky box ie I want to copy a tape to dvd and it seems to hog the tv - probably issue with connections on my part.

+ Easy to set up and use. Very useful function of being able to chase or pause live TV using the DVD recorder. Can watch a recording on VHS or DVD at the same time as recording another. The inbuilt TV guide makes recording simple and accurate. You can watch one channel whilst recording another.

- It is not made very obvious that you will need a digital tv (or set top box) to fully utilize this product. It is not possible to record two programmes at once using the VHS/DVD. The favourites list is easily lost.

- I don't find it very intuitive to use

+ Very easy to use if all you require are the basic modes..Recording/Playback/Copying. The remainder of the facilities are rather confusing and require sudy.

- Surprisingly for a product at this price there is no Open/Close button on the remote control.

+ You can record DVDs and videos from the TV. It plays CDs as well.

- The instruction manual doesn't explain the basic need for a digibox if you want to watch a different programme while recording another - unlike my old video which allowed you to do both. I had to contact the manufacturer to find out. Also, the advertising spec does not explain that you can't record both on the video and the DVD at the same time, it's one or the other, so that was a disappointment. I haven't explored the more complex functions as I'm a bit of a technophobe and the manual puts me off, plus I don't really need them.

+ No need to have two separate units. It takes RAM DVDs so it can pause live tv, very handy when your parents call!

- The clock is in a really strange place and is fun trying to change it for the first time! That is the only flaw I would say it has. I really like this unit.

- It is very noisy, particularly when recording dvd. I would like to know if this is normal.

+ I am not very good with the new technology - but this machine is easy to install, easy to use, and when I try something new I can follow the instructions easily. It is good that it automatically memorises new programmes as they become available. Overall it is a very good machine, and I am very pleased with it.

+ I already have a Panasonic DMR-ES20D and I find this much improved with the video recorder included and the ability to record from DVD to video and vice versa. Also the ability to view photos by inserting the SD card rather than using leads to the camera is great. Excellent buy. Adding another Freeview box gives all you can need.

- Cannot readily think of any.
